If you are sending your kids to private schools K-12, you will be forking over WAY more than that.

You don't have to send your kids to private school. You can move to the burbs and send them to public like most other places.

Low ball estimate. I think plausible in Metairie. K-7 about $6k a year, 9-12 $10k a year. Of course inflation though

Man, I'd be pissed if they asked me to pay upfront to help save the school and instead put it in the general fund and paid down debt with it. I feel for you parents.

It would make me want to have a physical altercation with someone, that's for damned sure.

That's shady af. They'll end up in court over it. Unfortunately, if they are really underwater it might not help the parents that prepaid recoup their money.

I'd have to take a $10k piece out of someone's arse then.

Late rumor is Runnels brother is some type of investor and will bail them out in the short term so they have the operating capital to finish the year and pay back all of the prepaid tuition.

I find it interesting that they plan on paying out teachers to the end of August. Very generous considering they are spending next years tuition payments as we speak.

If I were Mr. Runnels I would be concerned about wearing orange in my twilight years if they don't sort this out properly. The emails we received about the continuation of the K-8 program were emphatic and clear and used as a tool to solicit the prepayments in question.

With that said I give myself a 50/50 shot at getting a refund check. Hope I am proven wrong though. I can't speak for all parents but I am sure most just want to put this behind them and move on.

There are more important things in life but this is a shite sandwich nonetheless...

I wasn't aware that was on the news. Runnels was touring the school with several parties today so that is how we heard about it.

Since it was on the news that makes it gospel and all is well! I'll be watching my mailbox for the check.

People will get their money back but may take a month.

Teachers had a choice to be paid for 9 months they work or break it down into 12 month payments so get the same amount each month of the year. All money owed will be paid.

Property is not in St George it is right over the line. Good chance a charter school would buy it. If national group is looking to open or move a charter school you can buy this ready made school for cheaper then can build. Was completely rebuilt after it flooded in 2016.

Disclaimer: the following is the result of a conversation between my kid and one whose father is on the Runnels Board.

According to the board member’s kid, the board is concerned as of yesterday that there is not enough money to pay teachers and keep the lights on past March.

Supposedly Dr Runnels brother is a white knight who is putting up the money to keep things open through the end of the year. However, this whole saga has been one “next shoe to drop” after another so it would not shock me to find out that the school will in fact not be able to stay open through the end of the year.

Just going to leave this here

Me too man. Have had 3 kids graduate from Runnels (well will have 3 if the High School can last the last few months) and disappointed how this has gone. Even more embarrassed at some of the comments Dr. Runnels makes that shows he is lost and confused why anyone would be upset.
