Would be exactly what I would being doing if I had won that powerball. Over the next 6 months to a year there will be a ton of assests to be had on the cheap.

BTDT.

Got out b/c I didn't want to be doing that at 40, plus I need daily sex.

(At 25 I thought 40 was old )

Didn't they just consolidate Lafayette into Covington?

most of Lafayette is going to Houston or home

Everything they own on the shelf in the GOM is either in the process of being sold or for sale.

That leaves them only a few structures in deep water which will be serviced from Houston where they have more than enough office space

Don't take what I said disrespectfully.

It wasn't meant that way.

No you're good. I am not anywhere near 40 and dont plan on still being out here unless I am making a killing working for an operator.

I work with 2 guys who used to work on their shelf assets (from Covington). They left Chevron ~2 years ago to come on over to us. Guess they are happy they made that choice.

The real smart guys will be the ones who start the M&A buying spree over the next year.

Acquisition of old shelf assets is fraught with danger. You are acquiring tremendous abandonment liability that has just recently begun to be accurately captured on some balance sheets.

I am better than that so I truly feel sorry for the people who have families to support. Everything has a cost.

I don't have much of a problem with the people who are critical of those who didn't save money during the good times - that is a valid complaint.

However, losing your job with little to no prospects in the foreseeable future is never a good thing, even if you saved money. I don't expect everyone to be cordial, but the comments that basically insinuate "frick them, their fault for being in that field" are a way over the top.

How well would it go over if I went to an Alabama-based board and made comments saying people shouldn't have lived in Mississippi/Alabama if they didn't want to deal with tornadoes? There is absolutely no difference in that logic.

yep. when i see comments like 'Should have chosen a less volatile career field.' i just shake my head.

i can't think of one non-volatile (subjective, of course) industry except maybe healthcare, and even that's not for everyone. I can't see myself dealing with patients...way too impatient

i get not having sympathy for anyone going through this, i'm not sure who's even asking for it. but to go out of your way to express such is pretty stupid.

Yeah, I was being flip.

People don't realize that stockholders drive corporations, to a large extent.

What operator is letting you stay in the rig for a month straight? And what do you do?

Plan right now is to operate DW and NOJV from the Covington office but unless CVX is acquiring more DW assets from someone it doesn't make much sense keeping a presence there. Which sucks.

I'll never understand the sentiment of "frick you, you should have known better."

Some dumb asses don't realize that it will trickle down and eventually have a very negative effect on all careers because it fricks our local economy.

Just re-signed long-term lease for One Shell Square. Shell is committed to New Orleans. I promise.

They are allowed to sublease or assign the space to another company.
