Interesting. Thanks for the replies guys.

This is correct. My doctor said that he was treating me as if I were a pitcher/qb. If I worked in an office or something less physically demanding I probably wouldn't have needed surgery even with the size of the tears I had.

Had that same surgery done in 2013 and you're right, it is a bit on the painful side. I'd like to say it get better, but when they start rehab, the first few sessions will let you know how far you need to go to get full motion back.
It was about 3 months out of surgery before I could use my arm comfortably and about 5 months before I got back to full usage, meaning lifting some heavy weighted things.
If they have your arm immobilized like they did mine, it will take some time to get some range of motion back. Don't rush therapy, do that they say and it should all be fine in time.

I can't stress this enough. Don't take ANY pain meds before you do PT.

Anyone had this before and any suggestions other than pounding the Norco pills?
My suggestion is to prepare for it to never stop hurting. Ever.

I hope you have a very good PT. Follow his/her orders to a T and don't rush the recovery. Do all the stretching and strength exercises exactly like they tell you or else you could reinjure your shoulder again. There is nothing you can do to make it heal faster-let mother nature take its course.
It took me about 6 months before I got back on a regular exercise routine again where I felt comfortable about not reinjuring myself.
Good luck and be patient.

The rehab is tough at first but you’ll realize how important it is and that’ll get you through. Shoulders are tricky like all ball/socket joints.

I didn't have rotator cuff surgery but I had 2 surgeries on one side and 1 surgery on the other side to clean out bone spurs.
They sent over this chair for continuous movement of my shoulder. I propped up a pillow and slept in that when I could. Otherwise, didn't sleep much until the pain calmed down. Alternate non-Rx NSAIDS with your pain meds and by this I mean 2 hours after the Norco, take something in between like Ibuprofen or Tylenol and repeat until pain lessens. Ask your doc what is best and how much to take.
Physical therapy to get your movement back is every bit as bad as what you're going through now.
Good luck and stick with the PT. It will feel better eventually.

What Canyon said. All of it. I’ll add you’ve got to do the rehab. Don’t half arse it. It’s gonna hurt but if you want a return to full mobility, it’s got to be done.

I'm looking at dual shoulder replacement surgery in my future. Currently dealing with a severed or severely pinched nerve along with both shoulders being blown out again. Its a bunch of fun.
Damn...what did you do to end up like that?

Sleep with a pillow longways under your shoulder / supporting your arm. Takes the stress off.
Pound meds.
Had mine done last Sept

My job. If I have another surgery I'm not sure I will ever be released back to work. My doctor along with some of my family suggests I get on disability.

Yeah, I was like, this isn’t so bad. Then the nerve block wore off and shite got real in a hurry, ha
No chit. Even though they warn you it’s amazing how you go from “This ain’t nothing” to “Holy Chit....more meds...NOW!!!!!!!!”
Of course mine were bith total shoulder replacements but I’m sure rotator cuff surgery is bad also
(Slight giggle in background). ;)

Lots of good advice already given. Follow post-op and PT directions to a T!!! I went home with oxy. After two days of extreme pain and generally feeling bad like I was getting sick, I fell asleep and missed a dose. Woke up feeling pretty damn good. Trashed the oxy and only took Aleve from that point. There was pain, but still manageable. Do what they say and don’t rush it. The only thing worse than having shoulder surger, is having it again cause you try to be Superman during recovery.

Had it done many years ago and out of all the surgeries I’ve had (which was many) it definitely hurt the worst. Recovery also took the longest of all. I had to sleep in a recliner for a few days after it. Good luck
