Ross Ulbricht turns 40 today

The founder of Silk Road has been in prison since 2013. Ross received two life sentences plus 40 years for creating his online drug empire. The sentencing was shocking since the United States has one of the softest legal systems in the world. But if Ross did what he did in any other country he would have received the death penalty or at minimum received life in a hell hole prison.
Ross, enjoy your birthday in prison buddy.

A guy murdered 77 people in Norway, and injured another 320. 21 years is his sentence.

Free Ross
ETA: He is being held at USP Tucson, one of the worst fed camps. Damn.
ETA2: Looks like I was wrong about where Whitey Bulger was killed.

Didn't he hire a hitman?

The government alleged he did without any kind of evidence necessary for a criminal conviction, but still used that allegation at his sentencing. What a great "justice" system.

Probably would have gotten a 5 year sentence at a luxury resort in Sweden

If Ross worked for the CIA while doing this, he'd either be working at a cush job in DC or he'd be on MSNBC/CNN every night proclaiming the virtues of American intelligence agencies.

That's misleading. He's never getting out of prison.

He was older than me but went to my high school. The circumstances around the whole hitman thing are highly questionable. I still think he got a raw deal.

I think they quite clearly produced records/logs of those conversations. Pretty sure redandwhite was straight extrorting him and the first one was a rogue fbi agent, involving Curtis Green out in Utah.

I think it's likely he tried. The thing just got too big for him. Once millions and millions started pouring in, the serious hitters took note. He should have hit and ran while he could.

He's only been in prison for 12 years, so obviously. Technically they can keep extending his sentence, but he is eligible to appeal every single year after 30.

They will never let him out. He can apply forever. He killed politicians kids, he will never see the light of day.

He is no more responsible for their deaths than gun dealers, pawn shops or weapons manufacturers are for the deaths of people killed with guns. Nobody forced anyone to do anything on Silk Road. The government hates it because they could no longer monopolize the drug trade to quasi-state actors and their proxies.

You're confusing two conversations. That's referring to the Norwegian guy, brevik or however you spell it.

Are any of the documentaries on Silk Road worth watching?
The ones on YT are better IMO

Dread Pirate Roberts of Silk Road
He was done once he was identified and arrested. The government was never going to let him be free again. He wasn’t granted bail, and received life at his sentencing not because of his convicted crimes, but because of accusations.

Ross did hire hitmen and paid them large sums of money. The hitman sent pictures of the victims pretending to be dead and scammed Ross out of the money without killing anybody. But Ross believed the hits were carried out. You can read their online conversations. This evidence was presented in his trial but the prosecution later dropped it b/c they already had Ross on life sentences without the hits and did not need crooked hitman (DEA officials) muddying the water.
