I went to see Ron White at L'Auberge last evening. Thought he was very entertaining and funny. Also thought there was something "missing" from his performance. Can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's tough to be "on" all the time.

If you went, what was your opinion?

I don't like how they call stand up comedy concerts.

I saw him last year in Vegas...great show and I’m not really a fan. That being said he is a true road comic and I’m sure with that many shows on the road there are going to be some dud performances.

I saw him during a dud performance. He admitted that more half of his travel team was sick, and I think that he was, too. There were technical issues, too.

The tickets were expensive, so it was disappointing. However, he's still funny AF.

Maybe, the fact that he was doing stand up at the barge in Baton Rouge had something to do with his performance

He's got serious substance issues and it basically drove a wedge between him and the Blue Collar guys.

IMO he was the only funny one in that bunch though. He's hilarious when he's on and has some all-time great bits (and some so-so ones).

"I was drunk in a bar. They THREW me into pub-lic" is one of my favorites. And "well, I've got a place to frick your sister" always cracked me up.

I am being serious with this post. It was at L'Auberge. Maybe he doesn't bring his "A" game or possibly lacks some production that you would get at a bigger venue.

Awhile back I saw.. I think Brad Paisley maybe.. being advertised because he was playing at the Paragon. I am always curious what these guys, who use to be a lot more popular, make performing at these smaller casinos.

Me and my wife saw him 10+ years ago in Huntsville. He was doing 2 shows that night and we saw the first show. He was funny as usual but by the end of the first show he was pretty fricked up.

I'm sure the 2nd show walked away thinking something was missing, too.

I found this recently. Ron White tells a fascinating story about his "bout with sobriety" and meeting Robin Williams. Ron White on Unmasked with Ron Bennington

About a dozen of us drove out to Lake Charles last summer to see him at a Casino. I am a rabid fan. He was utilizing a lot of his last special which he filmed at the Paramount in Austin several years ago.

They don’t tour on totally new material. They work that out at smaller clubs. He’s a rhythm, pace and timing guy and you can’t riff like that’s on a big ticket, large room tour. So they’re recycling material because people don’t pay to see him work on shite that may not hit or that he may not have perfect.

So in a sense it was a bit familiar. But it wasn’t bad. I’d also say he was very sick when he got on stage. But within 5 minutes he was machine gunning the crowd and killing us. He hit something before he went on for sure. You could tell. He settled down and found his pace after the initial salvos and it’s was awesome.

Just understand seeing someone live you may hear a lot of material pulled from several specials or albums. They’re touring off their hits in a sense. The improvising or jazz comes during their down time in smaller rooms where there’s less risk.

The show sold out pretty quickly and i want able to get tix...otherwise, my arse would have been there. If the show was a dud, I'm curious, did he drink on stage?

My wife did not think he was so funny. She liked the opener more, but I liked the q & a after the show. Cant wait to see our photos with him
