i grew up with troy kimball and he always pissed me off being star quarterback and great at everything (except letting john hennessey steal his GF)
anyway i reconnected with him a couple years ago and the motherfricker is on the podium at practically every freaking national event.
dude just picked up a bike one day a few years ago and decided to kill it.

Do you all just look through Craig's List?
Also, I've had much better luck with the Shreveport area Craigslist for road bikes.

i bought a collectible LOOK off ebay from a seller in puerta rico after his auction recieved no bids in a private exchange deal.
it was sketchy as hell but i was getting a $5k frame for $1500 so i just tried to cover my arse as much as possible and held my breath after sending the money order.
luckily it all worked out.

How did a beginner thread turn into placing in national events
. OP, you're going to need a much nicer bike than a $500 hybrid if you're cycling career advances as quickly as this thread

Who in BR does "fittings" but doesn't charge $300 like the Bike Shop on highland will want...I know I need my seat and handlebars adjusted.

Just went thru this drill so let me save you a ton of work. Bayou Bikes near American Can in Mid City seems to be the local pros at fitting, accessories, et al. Specialized is their namebrand of choice which if you look at bike riders on the road, such as what you are aiming toward, this is also the current common namebrand out there. $400-600 will get you mobile.

I am a Specialized rider. Their bikes are top notch.

My Specialized is many years old and was $300+ at the time I bought it. It was a good investment and it's still rideable.

Cad703X,
I've got my eye on a 1988 Kestrel 4000--I just want the frame. I have a 1989 Complete Campy Chorus grouppo I want to build it up with.

The new Venge is so nice.
I love my SHIV. If the weather were cooler in Arizona and bikes couldn't be stolen, I'd get rid of my car altogether

i remember a dude with that bike in the late 1980s riding around the LSU lakes like he was a complete bADAss. at the time, that carbon frame looked like nothing else.
good luck on the restore.

I just got this and love it. Good for the street or for trails.

Not saying you cant get a bike that you can exercise on for less than 500, just that if you get serious in the least, their is a huge jump in quality even at the base level of road bikes compared to any old bicycle.
In regards to Kestrel, are they still quality? I've seen them at one of the local bike shops and it appears they are equipped with a lot of Oval components. I guess that means they are owned by FUJI? Is it the same deal as FUJI? Kind of a budget bike? I ride a FUJI now and know that's basically what it is, but I cant complain.

This is correct, although the quality curve skyrockets once you get above $500. You're getting better components, lighter weight frames, accessories compatibility, etc.
Bikes are something where a $100 more goes a long way.

Here is a pic I found of a 1987 Kestrel 4000 with full Campagnolo C-Record. Back in 1987 this would have set you back around $6000. It originally did not have a matching fork if I recall correctly. The Campy Delta brakes are a work of art (albeit heavy).
