Mitzi Shore Obituary
quote:
For at least a dozen years, she was "all-powerful, during a remarkably fertile time for stand-up comedy — the 1970s and early '80s — when many of today's comedy stars showed up in L.A. to go onstage at the only place that mattered," Paul Brownfield, who covered comedy for The Times, wrote in 2003.
The first comedian to officially share her life was her husband, Sammy Shore, who founded the Comedy Store in 1972 with fellow comic Rudy DeLuca. When the Shores divorced two years later, Sammy gave her the club as a way of lowering his alimony payments.
quote:
"Comics felt very belittled in those days — they always had to work with a singer," Shore recalled in 1993 in The Times. "I wanted it to be all comics. No jugglers and magicians. I wanted to give them respectability."
quote:
The list of careers Shore influenced included those of Letterman and Leno as well as Jimmie Walker, Andy Kaufman, Robin Williams, Bob Saget, Richard Lewis, Garry Shandling, Elayne Boosler and dozens of other readily identifiable names.
Absolute legend in the comedy scene passed early this morning..Comedy wouldn't be the same without her influence..she was suffering from Parkinson's..glad she is finally at peace

Slept her way to Historical Comedic Mediocrity

Her legendarily goofy son, Pauly Shore, put out a serious documentary in 2014. It's on Amazon Prime Video.
It's a neat look into the travelling comedian circuit as well as some interesting background on his mom and the early days of the Comedy Store. It also shows him dealing with is mom's declining health and selling their famous mansion.
I gained a bit more respect for Pauly after watching this documentary.

I met him at BTR Airport one quiet Sunday morning in 2006. He was heading out after a show at the Funny Bone, and we were heading to NYC.
He was a goofball, making us laugh with polaroids he took with strippers from Gold/Penthouse Club the night before. I gather he was still cranked from partying all night.
But he was very nice. And he's not nearly as dumb as people think based on his shtick.

Pauly Shore
Some set of his that was televised around 1994 is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. No stop, tear inducing laughter.

"I love sex and I love sex with rockers more than anything else," she said in an interview.
yep, committed suicide (bullet to head) after crashing her corvette into a tree. Her addiction to heroin and coke Fk'd her up big time. PS was just one of many dudes Savannah/Shannon was involved with
