I’m very saddened by this. Jerry’s portrayal of the real Luther van Dam was spot on. I actually met him while he was doing character research for the show. I thought he was a very talented and grounded guy.

I had a family wedding in Hot Springs a few years ago, where Jerry lived. The next morning I'm in line at the Embassy Suites breakfast buffet and there's Dick, patiently waiting for them to put out more biscuits.

Hard to believe that Dick Van Dyke played a villain on some old Columbo's at least twice I think. He seems so nice.

By all accounts he's one of the nicest people in show business.

Considering that at one time he was a pretty bad alcoholic, 86 is pretty good.

I would have loved to see a coach reunion before he passed. He was also great in Yes Dear.

R.I.P. JVD

We were on tour staying at The Sportsmans Lodge in Los Angeles with a day off. We went out to hit the pool and there floats Jerry, who was staying there while his house was being worked on.

Of all the weird stars to line up, one of our guys had packed his Minnesota Screaming Eagles shirt. Protocol is to leave celebs alone, especially in L.A., but it was just too rare of an opportunity so he grabbed it from his room and waited patiently for Van Dyke to finish his raft time.

Jerry thought it was funny as hell the dude actually had a Sreaming Eagles shirt and signed it happily. Super nice guy.
