I don't know if he is the absolute best musician ever to come from NOLA, but he's in that class, and it doesn't take long to call the roll.

When I first saw him play his version of "Tipitina", I quickly realized he was one of the best piano players ever.

I phrase it to say the most talented musician from Nola many in the country haven't heard of but will instantly recognize his music.

It's nowhere near his greatest songs, but just tell people, you know, the guy who sang the theme song for Disney's Princess and the Frog, same guy who did the Love That Chicken song for Popeyes (of course, we don't hear that one too much anymore, stupid fake Annie)

I told my gf, who's only 30, about Princess and the Frog! She can sing the whole thing and is sad with us old frickers now.

I first saw him around 1970 or so the weekend before Mardi Gras at the St Bernard Civic Auditorium (I believe). Have been a fan ever since. One of my favorites of his is, "How Come my Dog Don't Bark When You Come Round"
Dr John - Dog Don't Bark

I always loved his performance in the movie The Last Waltz. You could tell all those great artists respected him so much.

Wow, you are so ingrained in NOLA culture. Which Mardi Gras Indian tribe are you in? What Comus theme was your favorite?
