And Bullit and is best known for hunting the Zodiac.

He also helped catch the Zebra Killers and if you're unfamiliar with them that's a helluva story.

quote:

Actor Mark Ruffalo portrayed Toschi in the David Fincher film Zodiac.

George Lucas gave an interview to Empiremagazine once stating that the Zodiac murders captured his imagination at the time as a high schooler and then college student at USC, and he always felt like Toschi was harshly judged for how the investigation was handled. He explained this is why he named a location on Tatooine Tosche Station, "in honor of the SFPD inspector."[5]

Steve McQueen copied Toschi's distinctive style of quick-draw shoulder-holster by wearing his gun upside down for the 1968 movie Bullitt. McQueen also modeled much of his Bullitt character on Toschi.[6]

Screenwriters Harry Julian Fink and R. M. Finkalso modeled Harry Callahan, the main character of Dirty Harry portrayed by Clint Eastwood, on Toschi;[7] the film's villain, based on the Zodiac Killer, was called "The Scorpio Killer" (portrayed by Andrew J. Robinson).

Pleased to say I got to meet Dave early on in my career. Unfortunately, he caught some grief regarding the authenticity of Zodiac letters in the early 80's.Really good guy.

Side note about Bullit Movie. The scene where the two SMCSO Deputies respond to the murder at the old Thunderbird Hotel by SFO. Those were two real San Mateo County Sheriff's Deputies in the movie. One was Brendan McGuire who went on to be Sheriff of San Mateo County who I worked for. The other was Gino Massini who was one of my training officers in 1978.

I don't expect that one to be made into a movie anytime soon.

Crazy that the case still hasn't been cracked to this day. Ruffalo's performance in that movie was brilliant.

It's not really that crazy. The further removed you get from the murders, the harder it is to solve the cases, especially when everyone is dead or very old at this point.

I'm fully of the belief that Arthur Lee Allen is the guy but there are people who don't. It's also hard to know who the Zodiac actually did kill since he took credit for many other killings.

It's actually in development. I read somewhere that Jamie Fox was attached to play one of the cops. Who knows if it happens though.

I've watched the 1st season of The Hunt for the Zodiac Killer on the History Channel. After watching this, they have narrowed it down to 2 suspects...Ross Sullivan and Lawrence Kane.

Well now I'm going to Google that. Wonder if it's streaming anywhere.
