RHCP's Chad Smith plays what he thinks is the drums to "The Kill" by 30 Seconds to Mars

The concept of these videos is that the drummer will go in without knowing the song he's playing. He gets a drumeless audio file, then will play what he thinks is how the song is being played on drums. The results are pretty awesome. They're usually close in a lot of sections, but also offer a change of pace compared to what the original song being played has.

Same YT channel offers more videos of this same idea, and they're all pretty great.

Pretty cool
Speaking of 30STM, Jared Leto was one of the most surprising celebs I found out was from Louisiana.

The one from Megadeath's drummer playing Mr. Brightside was really entertaining. Fun to see his process and how changing the drum rhythm completely changed the feel of the song.

I like these videos but it’s insane that some of these guys haven’t heard these songs before.

I was never a fan of them but their cover of Stay by Rhianna is great. Leto can really sing and does a great job on it

There is one with some classic jazz drummer or something and he did it for Enter Sandman, which he claimed he never heard.

I watched this one the other day, he was the first one I've seen where he just starts winging it mid-listen, all the others I've seen listen to most of the track and form a plan. Chad goes for it and nails it pretty well.

Go watch El Estepario Siberiano cover Blinding Light, he’s changing the way drums are played forever. He’s so fricking good.

Makes me realize how talentless I am.

I like the one of Jazz drummer Dennis Chambers doing Schism by Tool for the first time

He pretty much nails it

Dude is a drum God
Perhaps the best active drummer out there. He is so good that other great drummers are even left speechless watching him.

Especially when so many successful musicians listen to tons of music. Not only popular music or music of their same genre, but they listen to everything.
I guess they are like most people though. Once they hit a certain age, they quit seeking out new music. They know what they like, and stick with that.

Those are always great videos.
Chad Smith is absolutely a riot too.

I’m always careful to consider someone maybe the the best on a particular instrument. Other than Chris Thile on mandolin, this guy on the drums might be the best I’ve ever heard on his respective Instrument

Sight reading or playing by ear is easy for pros like him. Although I can’t help but feel like he has def heard this song before. I mean hasn’t everybody who ever listened to rock?

I watch him all the time and what he does seems like it shouldn't be possible.

Whoa. I've never seen this before and that was awesome. Love how you can see him working it out in real time and immediately correcting himself when he thought the song was going one way but it went another. That was extremely impressive.

30STM first ever sold out show was at the Varsity.
They played at the Texas Club too right after their first hit album launched.
