Thanks for the service and well wishes to you.
My oldest kiddo was in the Air Force and bounced after four (4) years. It was a great experience for him. Brought a lot into focus and he is on a solid path now.

Why did you quit after 24 yrs? Seriously I'm curious (outside of hitting a pension figure) because a career in private sector can go for 30+ yrs. Thx.
Yeah man not comparable to a civilian gig. 24 years in the Army is plenty.

Asking for a friend.
And thank you for your service.
Haha yeah. The OIF years at Hood were the wild fricking west. They let anyone and everyone in the Army then just deployed the shite out of them.
Always funny when it bled over into families. One of our guys got bombed out of his mind on spice and was riding a long board down battalion Ave on Sunday morning with a samurai sword strapped to his back while all the families were trying to drive to Sunday services at the post chapels.

Serious stuff.
Its going to take awhile to detox. I know you think you are ready but its a major transition man. Lots of resources out there including the VA.
I boarded twice for a rank I KNEW I wasnt going to get but wasnt the ideal way to go out. So get your mind right.
And keep that clearance active. If you were in Tampa you are an intel or information guy so no issues getting a job.

When you stuck your hand into a pile of goo that a moment before was your best friend's face, did you know what to do?

How old are you?
What is your plan?
Which Defense contractor board are you going serve on?

What were all of the USMA guys like you came across? Were they good leaders, and could you tell that someone went to WP without them even saying it?

Don't know. Will get it sometime after I'm officially out and not just on terminal leave.

On a scale of 1 to “women can be Assaulters in a JSOC unit”, how woke are you?

Some were obnoxious as LT's and easy to spot. The best officers I've worked with and for though were academy grads.

Probably a 5. I would rather work with women soldiers than contractors. I also got a memorandum of concern from the unit SHARP rep for jokes I told in meetings.

43.
Got a job in financial counseling (not advising / insurance).
No GS or contracting. I was very deliberate over the second half of my career in developing friends, hobbies, and intellectual pursuits outside of the Army and don't want to just cycle back in wearing a polo instead of greens.

It's unreal. Got my DD214 today and waiting on my flight home. Feels like the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders and that I just want to take a ten-day nap.

The military doesn't have a monopoly on trauma or hard jobs. That being said the first time you bag and tag one of your friends it changes you forever.
