So you resigned and retired with zero plan?

Yikes.

39 yrs of service is likely 39%

The Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) percentage is 1% of your high-3 average salary for each year of service. If you retire at age 62 or older with at least 20 years of service, the percentage is 1.1%.

Surprised OP didn't hang on for that extra .1% times 30+ yrs since he doesn't seem eager to be free of work.

You’re right dude. The “I take ozempic” or “my ex wife is a bitch” threads are so much better

I retired at age 56.
Started hunting and raising Beagle hunting dogs. Wonderful grand children I'm now 82 and still enjoying life.

Find your niche and enjoy.

Enjoy your family and hobbies. But, if you absolutely have/want to work either.....
- do something you enjoy obviously
- work at your favorite store for discounts (ex. Cabela's; Lowe's, Home Dep)

I'd love to know I had 9 years left but it's not happening I don't think. I'm shooting for 62.

Screw working until you are old enough that you don't want to do much anymore. I worked with a guy for 11 years that retired at 67 and died 6 months later. We won't all live to 85.

Average lifespan for white male is 76. That’s 16 years. FFS don’t work anymore.

My goal is to be in your position by 49. Can't imagine working until 60.

He could be under the CSRS retirement. I don’t know much about that one but for FERS, you are correct.

The only way that would happen is if a federal employee worked for close to 100 years.

Again, common misunderstanding.

Congrats, man! I recently did the same thing on the day I turned 59 1/2. I am completely enjoying it! For the first time in my life I have no commitments at all. Complete freedom to wake up when you want, eat when you want and go anywhere you want without any time constraints at all.

Be prepared to spend quite a bit of effort uncoiling your work life from your personal life, though. For instance, I got notification that one of my prescriptions was ready on my old company cell phone today. As a result, I will have to spend an hour or two giving the pharmacy my new cell number tomorrow. All of that kind of stuff takes a good amount of time.

Congrats again…enjoy the ride!

Congrats OP! I’m just trying to get out at 55. Another 18 years to go.
