Resignation etiquette....

Need some professional advice here. I have probably come to the wrong place but here goes...
I have been offered a position with a company in the somewhat same industry as I am in but not a direct competitor. It is more money and a position I think I would enjoy more. I believe there is an equal amount of long term growth potential. The only person I report to is our local president and he is out for the day.
Question is, would you email him today and let him know you got an offer and you were taking it and we could discuss further Monday? Or would that be a dick move to do on his vacation day and before the weekend? I feel like it would give him more time to talk with our corporate office and prepare a possible replacement or a counter offer for Monday. I think I would want to know asap if I was in his shoes but I dont want to violate etiquette.
I have resigned before but never with this particular set of circumstances. Email him today or talk to him in person Monday?

Make sure you don't have a non competition or non disclosure agreement in place, download any information you want to keep onto a thumb drive (but don't steal company IP or trade secret info), think about everything over the weekend, talk to him on Monday.

Do what everyone else has said and wait until Monday. If you want, send him a meeting request for Monday or something, but I wouldn't tell him that you're quitting on his day off.

Nah, we have a good relationship. Im not worried about talking with him. He usually works all wknd from home anyway. I honestly feel like he would appreciate knowing today. But I am going to wait until Monday though on the advice of the OT.

Tell him on Monday, not his vacation. He isn't going to be calling anyone at corporate over the weekend to work up a counter offer.
But, when you do, be sure and him how much you have enjoyed working there so you do not burn that bridge. If you are looking for a counter offer to stay, the I would talk to your boss and let him know you have been offered another position, but really enjoy your current position, and wanted to inquire if the company is willing to counter offer or come close to meeting the current offer since you enjoy your current employer.

You say "offered a position". HAVE you ACTUALLY taken it? I hope not.
Wait until Monday, talk with the local president on Monday, tell him you that you are taking the offer. If they really want to keep you, he may want to throw some more money, perks, possibility of growth potential, etc. your way and change your mind.
Happened to me about 5 years ago.

Technically its a vacation day but he took off to take care of his kids because his wife is busy with something. He has been emailing me from home all day. And yes, he works all wknd every wknd. Lol

Don't say a word about any potential employment until you've made a decision. Then, give your employer two weeks notice, or longer if you wish, and that's that.
