I recently went through this. I wanted to give my previous company and manager enough time to prepare and find my replacement.

I was reminded that they don't give a shite about their employees and I was just a number to them.

If I were you, I would take a crap on his desk and write your resignation on his office wall in Sharpie so he'll find it on Monday morning.

Also reason number 2 for telling him today would be to start my 2 weeks notice so may last day would be the Friday before the Bama game.

If my two weeks begins Monday then my last day would be the Monday after the Bama game and I wouldnt be able to use my accrued PTO for the Monday after the Bama game to travel back to Houston. Company policy is you cant use PTO during your last two weeks. So basically I will have to stay in Houston for the Bama game wknd.

If you put in your two weeks on Monday, your last day would be the Friday you are talking about and not that Monday. IMO.

Email him today or talk to him in person Monday?

Wow. Is this a serious question?

It sounds like you really want to speak with him about it today. Do you have his cell number? If so, give him a call. If not Email him and tell him you would like to speak with him today, if at all possible.

I would wait and do it on Monday. Make sure you have all of you shite packed in the event they ask you to leave as soon as you resign.

adamb2151,

I just recently went through this EXACT scenario.

I am in HR as well, so I have some solid contacts who give great advice.

I called five people for their opinions and all five directed me to wait until the following Monday. Put in a full two weeks on Monday and be professional as possible.

Sounds like you have a good relationship with this current boss. Keep it that way.

I didn't in my situation. I'm still glad I handled it the way I did.

Don't unintentionally burn a bridge....

Obviously in an extremely corporate environment it wouldnt be a question. However I am second in command, have been with him since the business opened in Houston, and he is an inceesant workaholic who will be working all wknd from home anyways. Im fairly sure he would want to know today but im not going to his house to tell him. Lol

Just read the rest of the thread (I always reply before I read it)...

I would still wait until Monday. He is technically "off" even though he is emailing you.

Chances are good he will allow you do to whatever you want for the Bama game anyway....

Make sure to stress WHY you didn't tell him Friday when he inevitably asks.

I would still wait and have the discussion in person. It will look much better.
