Requirements to call a room a “bedroom”?

I was told they recently updated what can be considered a bedroom in La. I always heard it had to have a closet, but I heard in conversation they removed that requirement. Any realtors here?

Door and a window is what I've always heard.

A room designed for the purpose of putting a bed in.

In Nola I believe it needs a window to be considered a room.

We live have a 3bd 2 bath + “Office” or bonus room it has a window but no closet. The window is a 3’ by 3’ and the room is 9’6” by 10’ 7”

Fairly certain it has to have a closet and a window. Makes sense, the closer for obvious reasons, and the window for a route of egress in the event of a fire.

Per FHA guidelines, has to be at least 94 or 96 sq ft with a window. Closet is optional as someone could use an armoire. Also, you cant enter the room through another bedroom and it be considered a bedroom. It has to have access from the general part of house

It has to have a window with an exit opening of 5.7 square feet, which is code.

In addition to what has been said, if you are on a septic tank it has to be rated for the number of bedrooms for the additional rooms to be officially credited as such, officially.

Closet and window = bedroom
no closet and window = "bonus room" or office
no closet and window = "bonus room" or office

"This bedroom has an oven in it."
