Negative. I'm not even sure if its only one case. I know for the county you're there all week and serve on multiple cases.

I'm just pissed because if I don't get sent home right away, which I've heard is possible, I'll have to wait all day to get the South Park game

Oh shite, I didn't see the "federal" part.

I've done state/county before (in MD) and they bring you in with about 100 others and just start eliminating you. It's rather easy to get eliminated if you want to. I saw on the jury for an armed robbery case once and found it pretty interesting.

Good luck.

Thanks. I'd prefer to get eliminated, and I was hoping I'd check last night that I wouldn't have to report, but since its federal court I imagine there could be some interesting cases.

I'm just worried that I'll be down there all day dealing with some boring case involving taxes.

I was selected as part of the potential jury pool in a federal case 2 years ago. Be prepared to sit and wait. Very exasperating experience for me - I'm not a very patient fellow. Watch the defense team of attorneys - they appear to have most of the say in final jury selection. The defendants in this trial were 3 women accused of Medicare fraud and bilking patients through their home healthcare business. The defense team managed to seat 11 women on the jury. The details are worse than what I described but I won't go into that here. I was dismissed.

When I served it was for a year. Every other Wednesday. Didn't vote on not one case a waste of time. Very hard to get out of.

I was on a high profile federal grand jury for 3 years. Met once or twice a week. A lot of FBI involvement. Very interesting.

I did it a few years ago. It wasn't too bad. It was a drug (crack) case, which they told us before voir dire, meaning it would have been easy to get out of (they ask you if you have any feelings about the war on drugs). I thought about tanking it, but they also tell you that if you're not selected, you could very well be called back within the next couple of years, so I figured I'd take my chances and not tank it. I got picked, and the case only lasted a couple of days. They had this guy dead to rights for selling crack, so we only deliberated for a couple of hours (there was one juror who took convincing). I'm really not even sure why they took it to trial, but to each his own. At any rate, it's pretty interesting to see how the whole process works.

What are you allowed to have while you wait? Can you bring books/magazines?

I don't remember about anything in print form, but we definitely couldn't have a cell phone or MP3 player or anything like that.

We were told not to bring any reading material or electronic devices into the courtroom.

Did Federal duty in Florence, SC back in November. I was selected and the trial was a couple days (drugs). Wasn't a bad experience.

Are you in SC? Which courthouse are you at?

Sure. It's only livelihood, life, and liberty on the line in federal court, Skippy. Entertain yourself however you see fit and try not to let Lady Justice interrupt you too much.

He said "while you wait", genius.

Try not to hurt yourself falling off of that high horse.

Richland. Its a brand new building and they don't play games about what goes into the building.

I was fortunate that the judge I was in the pool for only had 1 trial this term and it was supposed to be settled today.

Didn't get selected and then didn't get called up for another trial for another judge that used our pool.

There was a shite ton of waiting around though, and since we couldn't bring phones into the building it was pretty boring. Luckily they had some magazines and I passed the couple hours reading Time and Vintage Guitar.
