Wondering who to report a tree service that took upfront deposit for tree removal and never came back nor able to contact them.

You gave a deposit to a tree company
Posted on 1/11/14 at 4:13 pm to chickasawmuddpuppy
Why would you do that?

Go to state website to see who owns the company, go to their house

lesson learned for you. does the proverb "a fool and his money are soon parted" mean anything to you?

What is the company?
Posted on 1/11/14 at 4:23 pm to chickasawmuddpuppy
You can start by posting the name of the company here ..

Why would you give them anything before they were ready to start?

Not all Sec of State listings have home addresses.
Also, good chance the person doesn't have a real company.

By the way, there was a thread like this a while back regarding a guy and a fence. The OP posted the guys contact info and the O-T took care of business from what I recall.

Did they take a deposit because they were afraid your house would move?

You need to let Angie know about this.

Standard practice with contracting work because there are too many dishonest people and neither side can trust the other.
So the contractor takes a deposit, starts working, then another payment, then another chunk of work, until the job is finished.
If you pay up front the contractor runs off with a larger sum. If you don't pay anything until the end the contractor can do the whole job and then get stiffed.

If you were in the UK you could just call these goons:
DO NOT CLICK IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SUCKED IN
DO NOT CLICK IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SUCKED IN

It doesn't work like that for tree work hoss. I have been on 4 different crews over the years and we got paid when the job was satisfactorily done, not before
Think about it, what the hell would you need a deposit on for a four hour job? They have a bunch of shite they can do if you cancel

We are talking about cutting down a tree, not fronting materials to build a house.
