For the short term, AEW will be successful. They're hot right now.
They have big money behind them and a talented roster.
AEW will have a budget they'll operate with and their ultimate goal at the top is to turn a reasonable profit.
- They have a TV deal
- They're selling out arenas already
- They'll need other streams of revenue which I am sure they're working on (i.e. merchandise and PPV)
Operating within their budget means they'll be fiscally responsible. They have to be.
As far as being successful long term - they'll have to have some sort of pipeline for new talent. And create new starts to keep the programming fresh.
But for now, people will tune in Wednesday night Oct 2 to see what's up. Put on an entertaining show and people will come back. Give us a reason to come back.
- Give me some rules and let the heels be REAL heels. Rules breakers. Cheaters.
- Give me some great feuds with twists and turns. And GREAT, believable promo's.
- Whatever happened to Valet's and Managers?
- Whatever happened to the heels that cheat and WIN?
- And Eye candy? We can have a couple of pieces of eye candy, right?
Personally, I am glad there is another brand coming on. It's the perfect storm. AEW has a few guys on their roster that I am familiar with and several I am just now starting to enjoy.
I've been watching wrestling since the early 80's and having multiple brands on TV is a good thing.

Baron Corbin. But the same AEW marks that hate WWE think Baron Corbin is the worst thing ever.

Alexa Bliss, Mandy Rose, Peyton Royce
These things exist in WWE, but AEW marks hate WWE so much that they can't see the forest from the trees.

I remember back at Beach Blast 93 in Biloxi. Jim Ross had just jumped from WCW to the WWF. Anyway the show was about to start and the ring announcer was introducing the commentators for the night, Jesse Ventura and Tony Schiavone. He came out wearing a Hawaiian shirt, sunglasses, and sunscreen on his nose. We had 3rd row and my buddy yelled, “Schiavone sucks! We want Jim Ross!” Well, Tony lost his shite and was legit trying to jump the barricade to get at my buddy. We were just teens at the time. Ventura had to hold him back and calm him down. Then head of security Doug Dillinger came over and told us to tone it down because Tony was “having a rough time”

He is the worst thing ever, but that's because he's a black hole of boring, and doesn't put on good matches.
Baron Corbin as the top heel sees Raw with some of its all time worst ratings.

What makes it harder for them is that WWE, with the network, has made paying $60 for a PPV a thing of the past. Assuming they priced their PPV’s like that, you are looking at an “alternative” that costs 3x as much as WWE per year, and that’s only if they did 6 PPV’s a year.
I think Double or Nothing was $50. The plan right now is to do four big ppvs a year and a bunch of smaller free shows on BleacherReport Live. Those free shows are only free in the US. They are about $10 in England. They also have a good tv deal over there for the weekly show. Their partnerships with OWE and Noah could help get them on tv in China and Japan. They have a completely different business model than WWE. They are not doing house shows and are playing mostly smaller arenas so costs will be lower. The Bucks are still great tshirt salesmen so merch will be a solid revenue stream as well.

AEW recently recruited former WCW announcer Tony Schiavone, and now it looks like another former WCW announcer could be AEW bound.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter AEW has shown interest in Mike Tenay.
Keith Mitchell, who heads up production for AEW, was at one point in talks with Tenay about working for the company.
It’s being reported that Mike Tenay has also had offers from everyone else but he hasn’t been quick to sign any deals.
Original plans called for Mike Tenay to become the General Manager of 205 Live but in the end the role went to Drake Maverick and no deal was made

Listen to Heenan shoots on him.
I think he's pretty funny

Tenay hasn’t been good-great since WCW went out of business.
It could have just been that Don fricking West, the former TV shopping network guy, was his color commentator in TNA but I didn’t see much quality from him there.
