Is AEW going to be an actual threat to WWE? Hopefully they aren't going to take the WCW approach and dump piles of money on any Tom and harry dick who is willing to sign a contract.

As of right now AEW is catering to the progressive, SJW crowd (they have tranny wrestlers, they openly support far left wing politicians, etc.) Right now they are drawing in the minority of wrestling fans who make the loudest noise and travel to all of the shows. Otherwise known as the “smart marks”.
For AEW to be successful on a mainstream level they’re going to need to stop with the SJW crap and cater to a mainstream audience.

They have only had one real ppv, the others were free. It did a little under 100,000 buys. Its a decent start but the real measuring stick will be to see how well they're doing in six months or a year.

Looking forward to it, AEW has a hell of a hill to climb but if they can avoid a lot of the mistakes WWE makes, it will be fun to watch.

In all fairness, Tony DID work for Vince way back when in the early 1990s and was godawful in the footage I've seen of him.
IIRC, it was Royal Rumble 1991 with him and Jesse Ventura as the announce crew.
Not like that changes much, because pretty much every announcer Vince hires sucks because Vince is always in their ear telling them exactly what to say.
You could put Lawler, Bradshaw, Tazz, Mike Tenay, Joey Styles or whoever in that chair and they will suck purely because Vince micromanages them into doing the style he wants.
