re: Report: Cruising in left lane more dangerous than speeding

I was driving to the airport last week on I-10 and there was a woman in the left lane driving 71 MPH. An undercover police officer was in between us. The cop finally got around the woman, got in front of her, and flashed his lights at her to get over. She didn't. I pulled up next to her and started pointed to the right hand lane and she was like "huh"? She continued traveling in the fast lane. What a retard.

Preach! Cannot stand this. This morning some jackhole was the left lane of I-10 and when I passed him in the center lane the car directly behind him creeped right up to his bumper and there was a line of cars behind. How can people be so stupid, ignorant, oblivious,.....

Maybe because there are so many left exits in Texas, or at least in the Houston area.
well don't impede traffic or go the same/slower speed than the lane to the right.

1. How the hell does a Yaris go over 100?
2. Do I just call 911 and report that as a reckless driver? Or do I call the LSP Troop around St Charles and tell them about this fricker and let them set him up?
He's going to kill someone besides himself on a serious note.
Why is it dangerous to drive 100+ mph if you aren't required to change lanes?
Accident and fatality rates are much lower on the German Autobahn, compared with US interstates, even though speed limits are higher (or in some places nonexistent) in Germany.

Slow drivers need to keep out of the left lane, but these clowns weave in and out of traffic going over the speed limit too.
It doesn't matter what speed drivers are going in the left lane. It should only be used for passing. Weaving would be unnecessary if drivers exercised proper lane discipline.

This is about safety. You should do your part to save lives. Law enforcement can handle speeders.
But I thought the speed limit was installed to create safe roads? By going faster than the speed limit isn't that unsafe?

I like to set my cruise on the speed limit and drive in the left lane. It helps slow down the speeders. I'm probably saving some of yall a hefty fine.
I hope you have a blowout and end up in a ditch

It is. And speeding laws are enforced. Cruising in the left lane has been shown to be more dangerous than speeding.

Texas drivers never get out of the left lane
LA drivers are worse. At least in TX everyone maintains a consistent 80 in the left. LA drivers like to poke around at 70-75 without maintaining consistent speed. T

Oh for fricks sake, shut your fricking Hillbilly Volunteer arse up.
Was just wondering if anyone had experience in reporting a fricking retard driver particularly one I know isn't in an emergency and simply commutes at 100mph in a 60-70mph zone. frick YOU TENNESSEE TALLYWHACKER.
Got my vacay approved and coming rub my LSU balls all over Neyland bitch.

Here in Alabama, the average driver seems to think the left hand lane is for texting or checking Facebook while doing 5-10 MPH under the speed limit.
Meanwhile, I'm stuck behind them an a cement truck like....

Yep, i enjoy passing the car line in the right lane at a 1 mph faster pace.

This doesn't make much sense to me. I agree that people should get out of the left lane, but the study confuses me.
How can cruising in the left lane be more dangerous than speeding if people weren't speeding in the first place.
If you remove the people speeding, then cruising in the left lane causes no problems. Therefore, the people speeding is what makes cruising in the left lane dangerous.
So wrong. Its differences in speed that not only increase the chances of accidents but increases the impact forces of the accident. Race car drivers bump each other at high rates of speed all the time without accident but if one is going 80 and the other is going 120 and they connect, you can bet its going to be bad.
It doesnt matter if everybody is going 20 or everybody is going 90, as long as EVERYBODY is traveling relatively the same speed AND paying attention.

The differences in speed aren't an issue when drivers are using separate lanes. It's the differences in speed that cause lane changes. This is what leads to accidents.
I've said this once already but it bears repeating:
Accident and fatality rates are much lower on the German Autobahn, compared with US interstates, even though speed limits are higher (or in some places nonexistent) in Germany.
You can be driving 30 MPH in the right lane and have someone pass you doing 120MPH. That's not unsafe. It becomes unsafe when you cause the car doing 120 MPH to change lanes. People have this idea in their heads that fast driving = dangerous driving. That's not the case. The autobahn is a great example of this.
You should be less worried about the guy doing 100 MPH and more worried about cars that force people to slam on their breaks on a multilane highway.
To those that say that if everyone drove the speed limit this wouldnt be an issue, it's a set "maximum" speed. It's not illegal to drive below the speed limit. Speeds will always vary among drivers. The solution, as always, is to have slow traffic move right, whether you are driving the limit or not.

I would like to pose a question or two. It may have been beaten to death but I haven't seen the responses.
Let's say it is a 2 lane divided highway and the average traffic is 65 mph and the speed limit is 65 mph, I'm going 70 mph and in the passing lane and someone that is going 75 mph comes up. Should I just move to the other lane and disrupt traffic because someone is going way over the speed limit while I am also going over? Or should I just hold my spot since I'm already going over and that person has no right to the "passing" lane because we are already going over the speed limit.
What's the law on passing lane if everyone is going the speed limit? No one can go in that lane?
