but I'm willing to bet that franchise, any NFL franchise at the time, was pretty cheap

Mecom paid $8 million (I think) for the NO NFL franchise (no name at that time) in 1967 and sold in ~1984/85 for about $70 million. The franchise is worth over a billion dollars today.

draft dodger

My Dad served in WWII in Europe. DDay + 6 and then stayed for liberation of France and into Germany. He could not stand John Wayne. He loved the guys that served like Jimmy Stewart and Glen Ford. Everybody he knew enlisted as soon as they could and he couldn’t stand a guy that didn’t serve but played a military hero in the movies.

I mentioned this in another thread a while back and caught a lot of venom. I guess insulting a favorite actor is just a line that you don’t cross for some people. Oh well downvote away.

IMO his best character roll? Nathan in 'the Searchers'. A stellar supporting cast.

I miss'um.

Wasn't John Wayne a little too old to be in WWII? My great-grandad was born just one year before Wayne and I never considered him to be of WWII age.

Dude was 26 years-old when he got the Saints franchise in 1966.

Yeah, his daddy bought it for him so he had something to do… Piece of shite…

My dad hated Mecom, he’s why the Saints sucked all those years…
