In the late 80’s a family of 5 could eat at the Panchos on Florida Blvd (kids under 12 ate free) and then see a movie at the Broadmoor Theater next door ($1 tickets) for $15.
And to answer the question about the video games at this location...
Circa 1990 they had Rampage and a machine with a bouncing orangutan that would say ‘hey, come and play with me’ (you’d put in a quarter and get a cheap prize in a plastic egg).

Hands down, my favorite restaurant when I was just out of high school (84). I once started with rice and beans, three cheese enchiladas (ya gotta mix the rice with the cheese sauce), and two tacos. Kept raising the flag and 19 tacos later, it all got washed down with a few sopapillas loaded with honey. Then called it a day. Might have cost $5, maybe $6.
Great place!

In the 70s and early 80s there was nothing better around LA. Ninfa's on Navigation in Houston was better Tex-Mex but not many around here knew about it. Pancho's was top notch on Guacamole, Pico, Flautas, and not bad tamales. Enchiladas were also very good, as were the rice and beans. But their signature was the sopaipillas !
and I still have a couple of these
long live Pancho's !

Senior year in HS we hit the one on Vets. Ate so much we couldn’t move or think. Driving back to a buddies to get our drink on and turned the wrong way down a one way. I yell from the back, “We’re going to get a Fn DWF, driving while full.” Stupid shite, but funny as hell at the time. Good ole days.

I knew a guy who ate so much at the one by LSU that he had to get his stomach pumped.

Parents took me there for many birthdays as a kid. Wish I still had the piñatas they gave you on your birthday.
same exact situation here. loved that place. ive read through this whole thread, and although birthday pinatas have been mentioned a couple times, but what about getting a polaroid of you and stuck the big cork board out front on your birthday..
i remember standing in that line, up against that wall, and it seemed like it was hours, like waiting for a ride at disney world or some shite... good times. makes me want to try the dos amigos next time im in town

Friend,
Uncle is a regular bidder at auctions around the world, but monthly at New Orleans Auction Galleries and Neal Auction Company. A few years ago, while I was with him, a lot of New Orleans ephemera made its way to the auction block. Glasses, menus, and bibelots from multiple now closed restaurants like La Louisiane, Brunings, Kolbs, La Riveria, Crozier's, and yes, Panchos.
Uncle did not have any interest in it, and there was a small bidding war between two small timers. The lot looked to be headed home at $250, even as I tugged on Uncle's sleeve to raise his hand.
Fed up with being ignored, impulsively I grabbed Uncle's paddle and raised the bid to 275. It was on. By the time the smoke cleared, the lot was mine with a hammer price of $850. The room erupted in uproarious applause, as I was quite dramatic and elegant in my bidding style.
Uncle was none too pleased, but I think he has come to accept it as a good deal, as he has given out many of those old menus to friends as gifts. While ten years ago these were not highly collectible items, today, they fetch a pretty penny on eBay.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Does anyone have pictures of the painted murals of old world Mexico that were on the walls of the buffet line and dining room from the Florida Blvd location.
I’d love to see if I’m remembering them correctly.
