Remember, always hit the deer, don't try to avoid it because this happens

I've seen someone hit a gator before thinking they'd just drive straight through with no problem. Boy were they wrong

Sometimes you're just screwed no matter what.

Unless you're riding a motorcycle, then avoid hitting deer at all cost.

You sure driver is ok? I think even if the driver told me they were ok I would still question it.

A deer is kind of a catch-22, but I'm not swerving for a cat, dog, raccoon, opossum/possum, etc. I don't say that to be a hard arse of any type, but if one runs out in the road I try not to make any sudden decisions, but I'll consciously and safely get out of the way or stop. Hopefully my mind and body are conditioned to stay the course if/when something runs out at the last second.

The police said he was ok.

But I've been questioning that report, too.

How fast was he driving? I know it was off an interstate, so I'm guessing 70+.

Did he try to brake first?

Actually not true. In a motorcycle you speed up. There are videos out there of this, the faster you're going the better the gyroscopic force is. Basically, you cut the deer in half :/

The same thing applies for a car. When you brake, the nose of the car drops which takes out the deer's legs sending the body through the windshield. Or so I've read on the internet which is never wrong.

What you want to avoid hitting is a hog. They look adorable and tasty, but it is essentially hitting a concrete Jersey barrier.

No, basically YOU cut the deer in half. I avoid the deer at all cost.

Deer have a tendency to leap milliseconds before impact, which is why many motorcycle show much less damage than you'd expect from a deer strike, the riders, not so much. There are video's showing deer jumping over motorcycles, but you chance it if you wish. I'll pour some out for ya.
