Cheapest moving company I found wanted around $2,800 i believe.
Getting the big Penske truck for $728 unlimited miles. Fuel is gonna run me around $200 for the trip.
Easily worth the extra $1872 to me

What part of Illinois? North, south, central?
If you're going to be living in northern Illinois one fo the first things you want to do is get a block heater installed on your vehicles. It's an electric heater that circulates and heats your anti-freeze overnight so your car starts in the morning.
If you think you'll be frequently driving in snow look into investing in a set of snow tires. They make a HUGE difference in snow. Run them from December to early March only and you should get several years out of them.
If you're a lifelong Southerner and there's a quick winter driving course you could take it's probably worth it. Driving in snow and ice is about using the gas pedal judiciously, leaving plenty of space in front of you and using your vehicle's momentum to your advantage. In other words, accelerate going down a hill to have a nice momentum going up.
Spinning your tires is the best way to get in a wreck or stuck. It'll take some practice, but you'll figure it out. Fortunately most of the Midwest is flat so it's a lot more forgiving to winter drving mistakes. Just take it a little slower and you'll be good. Hope the job switch is a good one.

I'd be concerned driving a moving truck / towing a truck if I wasn't used to driving in extreme cold and snow.
Also keep in mind if it gets real bad, there could be a lot of accidents which shuts down interstates.
Have an idea of places you can stop along the way and spend the night if it gets real bad.
Hope the money is really good. Illinois has all the problems Louisiana has, and cold weather.

With that being said, we are renting a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom 2 car attached garage 2,200 sqf House for $750 a month. The same house here in Louisiana is renting for around $1,300.
How old is the house? Is it out in the sticks? Does it have a/c? Heating oil?
I had a friend move to Bozeman, MT for work. He was excited because he had lined up an 2 bedroom apartment in downtown Bozeman for 200 a month. It had no a/c, the heat sucks, and probably hadn't been updated in 40 years.

Like stated earlier. I'll be making over 40k more a year, cost of living is way cheaper, benefit package is way better and I'm going to get valuable experience for my career. Plan is to move back down here in 3 or 4 years.

Lol damn your experience sounds rough.
The house was built 11 years ago. Its rural for sure but only a 18 min drive from the plant facility I'll be working at. It has central AC and propane furnace. Home alarm. Modern appliances. It's a nice house.

Save as much money as you can.
Just FYI, I've lived in different places, and I've found when cost of living is "way cheaper" it's usually that way for a reason. Looks like there is a resovoir near where you will be so that might provide some good summer recreation. But it also looks like you are living in the middle of nowhere, white-man country.
Maybe if you save a crap ton of money up - like 6 figures over 3-4 years, it would be worth it to be bored AF for a few years, especially if you are getting some good experience.
You will probably get a few good snow storms a year, but nothing horrible.
Good luck to you. Getting away from LA for a few years was one of the best things I done, and it made me a better person when I moved back.

Thanks, that's the plan. Save up money, get experience, and come on back when the time is right.

Dont forget to keep pressing the towing button after each time you stop. You'll be smoking your wife out as she follows you if you hit any hills. Ha...fun times.

You’ll be fine....just take it slow and give the soccer moms in their 4WD Tahoe plenty of room. Keep your vehicles ull of gasoline and also put a little food and water in each along with a sleeping bag or blankets for each person in case you get stranded for the night. I did the same kind of move a decade ago and it worked out just fine.
I am guessing you will travel I-55...I would do a little research to find locations of places like Loves truck stops where you can fuel up, shite, and get some food along the way.
Prepare correctly and then enjoy the adventure!
Also, moving companies can often supply a couple of guys to help unload the truck when you arrive so you don’t have to do it all alone.

And how much is the insurance on the truck? Cause you def want to pay it. Your insurance/credit card will not cover a moving truck.

It depends on where you are. Everyone I know takes trains whether that’s the subway or long distance trains. And most employers have tax free travel options

Best advice I ever got about driving in the snow, "Pretend you brakes don't work at all and keep that much distance free ahead".

Paying for the best insurance they have. It's like $240 for the move.

Good idea. When my family relocated to AZ after 2016 flood we flew them to AZ and my husband and I did the 23 hour long drive from BR to AZ in a moving truck with their stuff. Insurance was an additional $300-400 but you are really foolish not to get it considering how expensive those trucks are.

If you're just driving to southern IL on Wednesday, I think you'll be fine. The worst part will be moving your shite into the house while it's cold as shite.
Sounds like a great opportunity for you and your family. Exciting times!

Southern Illinois. About a hour east of St Louis Missouri.
ETA: NVM, see where you’re moving to Carlyle. So 55 to 255 to highway 50?

I went and visited some family in Mt Zion which is very close to Decatur Illinois. The people there are very nice but holy shite that’s a boring area. Nothing but corn and soy fields.
