just take the meds as described

The problem is the constipation that the hydrocodone will give you will be probably be much worse than any post surgery pain.

I need all 4 of mine removed and he recommended a nerve block. My mom had it done that way and she had no issues so i'm hoping for the same results.

Everybody recovers from these procedures differently. I’ve done easy extractions and patients return and claim it’s killing them. I’ve done others that I figured would bother a patient later and it never did. How old is your son? Hard to say what that dentist will prescribe after the procedure. Usually 1000mg acetaminophen (Tylenol) along with 6-800mg of ibuprofen every 6-8 hours will take care of most discomfort. Research shows it to have the same effect as a norco 5 (Hydrocodone). I rarely prescribe opioids anymore. I would expect more post-op discomfort if the teeth are impacted (can’t see them in the mouth). Either way I would take it easy and recovery should be relatively quick

I drank a lot of bourbon to prevent a dry socket...so basically I drank my way to recovery. I wouldn't recommend it for your son, but then again you're a corndog, so that's probably acceptable.

Percocet is mainly Tylenol but with a mild opioid. Some studies show Tylenol itself is equivalent.

Ibuprofen is good but may, may make them ooze a little more.

You can likely just keep them on a Tylenol schedule every 4 hours (max 2000mg per 24 hours) and replace one of those with a Percocet the first few days. After that they’d be fine then flush the Percocet or return it to pharmacy

Overall key is to give medicine on a schedule for first few days to cover(‘smother’) the pain continuously rather than trying to chase it by giving it to them when it hurts. Makes sense?

Avoid dry socket like the plague.

Pain was not bad, aleve works well on me.

Had a rear tooth pulled last year and ibuprofen worked better for pain than hydrocodone. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't experienced it. Apparently their are oral surgeons in Metairie who knew of this effect for most people.

Got dry socket four days later, nothing is taking that pain away. Needed a dental visit to have it packed with something, 24 hours later all was well.

But the ibuprofen approach worked really well for extraction.

Honestly, it wasn't that bad. Took my pain meds for a few days then tapered off. Be vigilant in cleaning the meat-pockets.

Pretty simple, stop asking for parental advice. Don’t let your kid be a dumbass.

I had mine extracted in the late afternoon. I just took 2 advil and went to bed afterwards. Was fine the next day. It's now a minor procedure.

I was just out of high school when I had mine pulled. It was excruciating. Meds for a week and plenty of Sonic cream pie shakes as I couldn’t stomach anything else soft.

Don't get behind on the pain meds. Take them on a schedule whether you think you need them or not.

Also go on and start hiding your sh!t or at least be thinking about it for when he starts stealing it to pawn to support his habit

Eat cold stuff like ice cream instead of hot stuff like soup. Cold foods can help with swelling.
