My young adult son is having four wisdom teeth removed this morning with twilight anesthesia.
What are your experiences to limit recovery time and pain?

Don't get behind on the pain meds. Take them on a schedule whether you think you need them or not.

Please take them as instructed on the bottle and no more.

The pain was pretty bad for me for about 36 hours. Took the meds and no issues.
48 hours from extraction morning I was fine.

I had no anesthesia.
Cotton swab with something to numb. Then a needle with numbing stuff. Wait a few minutes. Then he cut the gum around the area, peeled back the flap, grabbed the tooth, pulled it out. Stuffed cotton in there. Repeat.
It was very quick and very easy. Numbing the area took longer than the extractions.
This was in the morning. I was onboard the USS America. I worked nights. I was at work that evening. Actually went to work early.
Stitches fell out a few days later.
Some people get lucky. I got lucky.

Tell him Livvy Dunn came to visit, it’s a shame he doesn’t remember…

Don’t use straw, smoke, or anything too hot or cold for a couple of days.
Try to sleep upright first night on a couch or lazyboy (prop up with pillows) and routinely swap out ice packs first 24 hours. I think this is the real money ticket for easy recovery.
Mashed potatoes, jello and soft foods until gums get tougher.
Pain meds as needed and prescribed.
Good luck and speedy recovery!

Don’t take any more Oxy than needed. Threw most of my bottle away. Those things worked too well…

As mentioned take the pain medicine as prescribed and on schedule. It took me about three days to really become functional again. The pain is real but manageable. Popeye’s x large mashed potatoes and gravy was my go to for nourishment.

Video the post-op recovery and post it here. Usually quite entertaining. Otherwise, good luck and hope the recovery goes smoothly.

Got all 4 of mine pulled at the same time on a Friday morning. Got home and called a friend to schedule a golf game Sat morning. He laughed at me. I ended up in a scramble at the old Briarwood course and we took 2nd place.
Very limited pain for me. I took a pill the evening after the removal and then just relied on beers after. I guess I got lucky.

I had one taken out recently with nasty long roots and it was a tough healing. 24 hours to calm the bleeding. Couldn’t talk for 2 days. Affected talking and activities for a week at least. Fully normal at end of second week.
Pain was not bad, aleve works well on me. Just an intrusion into my work life when leading meetings or talking through issues.
I are thinned out instant mashed potatoes mixed with chicken broth for meals and sugar free pudding mixed with water. I couldn’t tolerate much more than that for a week or more.

All I know is mine hurt for a long arse time. Probably almost a month.

I had mine removed with local anesthetic, and recovered without pain medication. It is not that bad. Do like my parents did, and tell him not to be a puss.

My daughter had hers pulled when she was 19. The first couple of hours were miserable, but after some pain meds and a long nap, shyte calmed down. She was pretty much back to normal after a couple of days.

My son had his removed about 6 weeks ago. Wasn't bad at all for him. Minimal pain.
Worst part for him was washing out the spots with salt water. But yeah, no issues at all.

Doc gave me an envelope of pills, I thought they were Tylenol and took two. Hallucinated at my softball game that night.
Next day I found the correct dose was 1/2 a pill

I dont remember it being that bad as long as you dont get dry socket. Worst part was not able to dip for 5 or 6 days.

Never had mine removed but the top two are coming in now in my 30s. My dentist lied to me and told me I was lucky and had avoided them a couple years ago. I imagine it’ll be pretty easy to get them taken out.

I actually had 3 removed as an adult. It was pretty straight forward but a good 4-5 days after the surgery, I realized I was still taking the prescribed oxycontin even though I was no longer in pain.
This was before all the Purdue Pharma stuff had come out. I remember thinking about Brett Farve and Rush Limbaugh and being like "this shite is no joke..." So I chucked the rest of them.
That's all I got. Just do what the recovery protocol is and he'll be fine.
