I lived there....loved Griffith park at sunset. The city twinkles. Downtown is rad. Being able to walk from little Tokyo to olvera to Santee alley and all the districts between is interesting people watching. It's not dirty/dangerous it's just a large metropolitan area. Have fun! I miss it there all the time :)

Go check out the Chateau Marmont Hotel lots of old Hollywood people lived/stayed there. Rock n Roll was well represented Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, etc lived there......The Bungalows out by the pool is where Belushi stayed & died.
Have a drink at the bar is mandatory. Great history at this place.

edit: Roscoes Chicken and Waffles is a must for first timer as well.
That is a good list. The only thing I would do different is to park and walk Beverly Hills and eat lunch at Nate and Als. Seeing a game at Chavez Ravine is something as well. Usually not too hot and the fans in the cheap seats get rowdy and keep things interesting.

Santa Monica blows. Go to Malibu and hit up Zuma beach and then eat at sunset on the PCH

Totally agree. I loved LA, but hated Hollywood. It's a tourist trap, just like Bourbon St.
Get a ticket for a taping of The Price is Right. Win a car.
The weather there is always perfect. Go to the beach, or do something outdoors.
I would also recommend stopping to eat at various hole-in-the-wall Mexican joints. There are a lot of them all over the city. I struck gold a few times. There's one near the Dodger Stadium parking lot that has, hands down, the best burrito I have ever eaten.

Gold advice right here! There is unlimited authentic Mexican food in the city. Most of it is great.
