The USA has the world's third most populous nation and the third or fourth largest geographic area. (I think the area depends on how much territorial water you include.)
USA has ~1 billion fewer people than number two on the list (India). The US would come in just in front of or right behind China in area, if 3rd or 4th respectively. Russia is 1st in area by a lot, Canada is 2nd. Canada, China, and the USA aren't all that far apart in area.
The USA is 145th in population density. Italy is 51. China is 59. Russia is 181; Canada - 187.
