quote:

The Dynamite Kid -- one half of the famed British Bulldogs tag team duo -- has died, his family announced Wednesday.

The wrestler -- real name Tommy Billington -- had been battling health issues for years though his exact cause of death has not been revealed.

He turned 60 years old on Wednesday ... the same day he passed away.

...

Dynamite Kid's nephew, Davey Boy Smith Jr. -- a former pro wrestler himself -- issued a statement on his passing Wednesday morning,

"It deeply saddens me to announce the passing of Tom Billington the 'Dynamite Kid.' I was really happy and glad I got to see Dynamite one last time last June in the UK."

"Dynamite was certainly an inspiration to myself and many others and really revolutionized professional Wrestling as we now [sic] it today. He flew high, and gave it his all every match. Thanks for everything and sad to have lost another family member. Rest In Peace Dyno."

as any wrestling fan of the 90s knows... Davey Boy Smith - THE British Bulldog - died some years ago

60 isn't bad for a wrestler. Hell - Davey Boy died at 39.

I’m surprised Dynamite lived as long as he did, between the damage he did to his body in the ring, being so roided up, and his lifestyle outside the ring.

Having his back degenerate to the point where he was wheelchair bound, ending his career, probably gave him an extra 20-30 years.

Davey was still active and heavily usin steroids and painkillers at the time of his death.

Dynamite had been forcibly retired due to back problems by then, limiting the amount of new abuse he could do to himself.

the interesting part of that is TMZ calls Davey Boy Smith, Jr. a "former" pro wrestler

isn't he still in Suzuki-Gun in NJPW? Smith, Jr. & Lance Archer (Killer Elite Squad) just held the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship

TMZ probably considers anyone not active in the US as retired.

If it isn’t on US television like WWE or possibly TNA, it doesn’t exist to them.

Couldn't have happened to a better person. Dude was a total piece of shite. Just hope his final year was as miserable as he was during his life.

Not going to argue that.

He was a notorious a-hole, which was probably a combination of Napoleon complex and roid rage.

There’s a reason why people take Jacques Rougeau’s side on the incident where Jacques knocked out all Dynamite’s teeth with a roll of quarters.

What about him holding a shotgun to his wife's head.... then joking that it wasn't loaded?

THE most skilled tag team of all time arguably. The Rockers were right there.

When Davey Boy was not high or drunk, he was superb.

Dynamite was on a different level. Pound for pound the strongest wrestler I had seen.

He was a notorious bully. He beat up many backstage. One day, j. Rouggeau beat his arse. Knocked teeth out.

Yes...miserable man. Benoit-like.

Can’t remember if it was him or Davey that is accused of doing that.

I wouldn’t be surprised with either.

I think the actual claim is that one of the two would hold a gun to their wife’s head and dry fire it when her eyes opened, then say “one day it will be loaded.”

Please feel free to say it. The more the better. Just because someone dies doesn't make them any less of a horrible person.

Dynamite and Davey were awful to Matilda (the bulldog). But Dynamite was a sadistic piece of shite in his own right.

Innovative rassler, though. Those Tiger Mask matches inspired a generation of rasslers. Benoit was a Dynamite clone. Copied everything he did.

He and DBS’s tag title win vs Beefcake & Valentine at WM2 is one of the oldest matches I remember. They were part of what I believe is the greatest era of tag team wrestling. (Right up there with the Hardy/Dudley/Edge & Christian Attitude Era.) It’s a shame that his career was Marty Jennety’d when they decided to give DBS his massive singles push.

As for the seen today, look at that era’s JTTS Killer Bees. They’d be one of the best non-gimmick (I.e. no pancakes nor Mad Max inspired gear) tag teams today. I think they’d be up there with Dash/Dawson, Sheamus/Cesaro, and most like Cesaro/Kidd.

Wonder what Jacques Rougeau thinks of this? Might just have a roll of quarters for him.
