Wasn't this the camp that was built from the ground up to be an extermination center?

Can't knock the Nazi's for their efficiency.

Nazis were fired for not being efficient enough

Irmfried Eberl ordered too many deportations and the Jews died in trains in the heat while waiting for the gas chamber

Which was a bad look

Like lambs to the slaughter. I can't imagine such disdain for life. I'm sure there were plenty who feared that if they didn't follow orders then they or their family could suffer, and humans can do some crazy stuff when properly brainwashed, but the commanders ... how does one watch or organize that?

Maybe they (the Nazis) could make excuses in their minds for doing that to fighting-aged men, but the women and children? My mind cannot compute that.

Their rationale was the Jews stabbed us in the back and those women will birth more and the children will grow up. So kill them all.

I watched a documentary where one of the Jewish prisoners that were tasked with the duty of taking the dead out of the chambers said that of the approximately 1 million people that died, only one of them survived the gas chamber. He said it was a small child and they could hear it crying. He said that one of the soldiers then walked into the chamber and shot the child.

Yep I’ve read shite where they say a baby was crying and the SS picked them up by the legs and smashed them against a wall

If you've never seen this take a few minutes and watch. It's amazing how many lives were lost in WW2. The numbers are unreal in today's world.

I know the gas chambers were awful but the trains situation stands out to me as the worse thing to happen to them.

Being trapped in a boxcar That's sitting out in the summer sun crammed with people is my idea of hell. Give me the gas any day over that.

They had a pool built there as well and the Germans told the Jews to go swimming, but had to “shower” first before being allowed in the pool. Sadly that shower was a gas shower

That job went to fanatics. Ordinary Germans got to be cannon fodder in the Wehrmacht.

There's a book called Into That Darkness by Gitta Sereny based upon her interviews with the commandant of Treblinka and others.

Riveting read and chilling as shite.

Read ordinary men: reserve police battalion 101 and the final solution in Poland. Most of the people who committed these crimes were regular men. The Tom, dick, and Harry off the street.

It’s amazing what a human will do to another when told by a superior.
