In the Philippines There’s an Island Within a Lake On an Island Within a Lake On an Island

The Sargasso Sea has no coasts

Istanbul rests on two continents.

The Russian trans Siberian railways 3,901 bridges.

Between the United States and Russia are the Diomede Islands. The two countries divide the islands, with Bio Diomede located in Russia and Little Diomede in America, separated by the International Border and Date Line. Because of this, although the islands are just 2.4 miles apart, there's a 20-hour time difference between them. This unique trait is why Big Diomede is called Tomorrow Island and Little Diomede is called Yesterday Island.

Only two countries in South America do not border Brazil, Chile and Ecuador

The Thames River has the most crossings of any river in the world. It has 200 bridges, 27 tunnels, six public ferries, one cable car link, and one ford along its 215-mile course.

And the second longest river in the world (Amazon) has 0 bridge or tunnel crossings. I guess there are a number of ferries, though.

What's the rationale for this? I never quite understood it, but I'm guessing there must be one, to declare miles and miles of mostly deserted land surrounding the cities as still "part" of each city.

36% of the world’s population lives in China and India. An insane statistic when you consider the lack of access to reliable birth control in large third world areas within Africa, Asia and South America.

Basically to get rid of a layer of government that doesn't need to exist. Instead of having a borough government and a city government, we just have city-borough.

If not, you would have two entities ruling over the exact same population for the most part.

I don’t think this is true... The whole of Orleans Parish is the city of New Orleans, including all those camps on Hwy 90 all the way out to Fort Pike on Lake St Catherine...
