Great poem by Kipling. His poem IF is my favorite by him. That ending…
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With 60 seconds worth of distance run
Yours will be the earth and everything that’s in it,
And what’s more, you’ll be a man, my son.
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With 60 seconds worth of distance run
Yours will be the earth and everything that’s in it,
And what’s more, you’ll be a man, my son.

I belie e one British man phrased it something along the lines of “you don’t have to be smart to charge the enemy hoping for a medal and some glory”
quote:
quote: Calvary was for the rejects who flunked out of everything else

The word POSH came from the British traveling to and from India. It was desirable to get a berth facing Africa rather than the open sea. On the way out, that was on the left (port) side.On the way back, starboard. So the rich would book Port Out Starboard Back, or POSH.
This isn't true.

Port Out, Starboard Home works a little better...

The guy who owns the motel here in out little corner of Tim McGraw country is some kind of nobleman over there. He goes back for a few months every year when the weather is cooler. He's the rich American cousin and everybody cowtows to him.

You didn't even have to duck. I never thought of Calvary as being for flunked rejects. Now, cavalry on the other hand . . .
