I've noticed these lately when driving around, specifically at the links below. They are mainly across Dawson and Wards Creek

Any idea what these were built for, or why they haven't been maintained?

Bridge behind Southside Produce

Bridges behind LA Boilers

Bridge behind Mathernes

Bridge behind Jimmy Swaggert Complex

Bridge behind Willow Grove

EDIT:Removed Pecue Pipeline

Feel free to add more if you know of them.

Most are probably connecting property on both sides owned by the same person/company.

Could also be utility companies building them in order to more easily service lines.

I bet that is a pipeline, similar to the crossing I had listed at Pecue and I10

Some sort of pipeline (water or gas?) that has debris caught in it.

Pipeline clogged up with debris...used to cross it as a kid going to eckerds and new generation
to the op...my guess is all those bridges are leading to the swaggart complex.back in the eighties, that was pretty much the only major thing on bluebonnet and i guess they thought his little bible college was going to draw crowds from everywhere

It was until the hooker on Airline Hwy had anything to say about it.

If you use the google earth tool that shows historical images of the area (goes back to 1989) most of these areas are farm/pasture land and were private bridges to get from one side of their property to the other.

Not sure about all of them - but I'm pretty sure the Willow Grove one is part of the Capital Area Pathways Project. Biking/Walking path encircling a pretty large area of Baton Rouge.

Being that none of those are more than one lane wide, I suspect they were privately built and owned.

Since it's showing up on the 1989 Google Earth historical imagery... I'm going with negative, ghostrider. Although it might be incorporated in the design.

Wish they would move faster with this. Though the new path at the Kenilworth park is very nice (and part of this project).

They would be perfect for bike/run trails, if it was worth it to fix them up rather than build new ones.

Yeah, even though none of them are part of the direct path of the BREC Pathways project, they would be very useful for people accessing the medical loop. It goes along the N side of Dawson's Creek where all of these little bridges are located.

It would be very easy to install posts at each end to prevent vehicular traffic and therefore the capacity would only need to be that for bikes and pedestrians. It would take virtually no structural improvement besides installation of railings.

There was an Advocate article a couple of days ago that one of the bridges over Ward's Creek had to be re-designed because it was too expensive.

They claim they will start construction in 2017...

Over 15 responses and no mention of the penis-shaped pool next to Southside YMCA in that first link.

I missed that, good to know.

I went and rode that path when I saw it was completed. Parked by the mall and started at the bridge under bluebonnet. When I got to the crossing at Wards creek, I couldnt believe that the bridge hadnt been started.

That was like 2013 I think
