I’ve read a bit about how the Alaskan wilderness is remote, harsh, and absolutely beautiful. I want to visit one day.

What’s the skinny on this black pyramid that supposedly exists out there in the so called “Alaskan Triangle?” Is it an open secret type of thing? Buncha bullshite? Nothing burger? Has ANYTHING hit the public about that?

I figure our resident shrubber might know…

Best book is Mischner's "Alaska". When you go, do the drive to Pruhoe bay

the pyramid is a myth. Based on some data supposedly picked up from a Nuclear test in China in 1992.

The triangle is real, but its actually just the main travel corridor in Alaska so most mysterious disappearances will probably occur in those areas.

It is real. There is a large black pyramid located in Alaska that, like bigfoot, is immune to photography.

I heard Roger built the black pyramid with waste from his shrub cutting activities.

Most of those have, at best, razor thin margins.

Thanks! I’ve been meaning to ask you this, Rog. The Why Files had an episode on it and I was intrigued.

Its one of those things that had a grain of truth, but became subject to too many imaginations.

The triangle is interesting though. So many disappearances over the years, plane crashes, etc. Including Hale Boggs, a congressman from Louisiana.

Heard the skeeters are pretty bad.
Worse than Bama?
Only serious responses please.

The're intense, but don't last very long. That was my experience anyway. Maybe somebody else can confirm or deny. For about ten days you couldn't be outside without long sleeves, long pants and headnet. The rest of the time they weren't an issue.

ETA I was in and around McCarthy.

Depends where you are. In the flat interior, mosquitos are horrible. Permafrost prevents proper drainage, little pools of water keep mosquitos plentiful in the brief summer.

Not so bad where I am.

Went flying fishing down the Gulkana back in late June. The mosquitos were the worse I’ve ever experienced. Long sleeves and head net was a must. Trying to tie a fly on the line and my hand would turn black from mosquitos landing on it.

With that said Alaska was incredible. Floated and camped for 3 days and never saw another person outside of our crew.

Everything up here is trying to kill you: the weather, the animals, the Earth, the native drivers in Anchorage.

Summer, on the Peninsula - hard to find prettier though.

And do the drive from Anchorage to Prudhoe - the haul road will humble you.

In 72, Hale Boggs, Speaker of the House (from Louisiana) supposedly died in a mysterious plane crash in Alaska. No evidence of crash, plane wreckage or bodies were ever found.

How far are Dollar Generals in Alaska? In LA, they’re 3.7 miles apart.

Headed from Fairbanks to Wiseman in the end of Aug next year. How bad will they be then?
