Question regarding warranty work on vehicle

Do you have to bring it to a dealership to have warranty work done. For instance, the abs and traction control lights keep coming on and off in my vehicle. I take it to the dealership and they say it'll be 2 weeks before they can get me in. Can I just take it to any mechanic and if he finds out the sensors are going out and it's covered by warranty, just get him to do the work? I have 31,000 miles on this vehicle.

Nope. Has to be a dealer

Is it a factory warranty or an aftermarket extended warranty? If it's factory I think you have to go to the dealer

Is there another dealership within reasonable distance that you can check with to see if they can get you in sooner? Best to let a dealership deal with warranty related issues.

you can take it to any dealership though
So if Ford dealership A has a 2 week backlog you can go to Ford dealership B and have the work done.
If its a GM you can go to a Chevy or GMC dealer

if you want warranty work done, take it to a dealer. if you want to pay for the repair, take it to wherever you want.

Alright thanks. I'll call the next closest dealer and see. Appreciate all the answers!

I bought an extended warranty when u bought the vehicle but it only had 31000 miles on it so I figured it would be covered by the original factory warranty..I bought the vehicle used and it only had 13,000 miles on it at the time.

Dealer. But they will typically give you a loaner car for warranty service on the house.

I have an extra vehicle so that's not the issue just crazy it's a two week wait.

Three years ( from the date the vehicle was put into service) or 36,000 miles. Is there a safety issue that won't let you wait the 2 weeks? ABS sensor being out should not affect it stopping. May be an issue in the rain on a hard brake press.

Hmm it's a 2013 so that may be an issue.. What about an extended warranty? I've been driving it for a 2 weeks now, so it's not that big of an issue.. Just want to go ahead and get it fixed.
