Question regarding termite treatment/retreatment for house.

I've owned my house for 9 years. When I purchased it, there was a termite contract on it. I continued to pay $90/year for something (treatment, inspection, I don't know) and to keep the contract. No big deal, figured it was part of owning a house. So now this year the company came and said that I need a 10 year renewal treatment I order to keep my contract with them. This retreatment will cost $1000 and I'll have to pay the $90 starting again next August (this year's $90 is included in the $1000, so gracious of them...). This is unsolicited out of the blue.
Anyway, this seems like some sort of sales ploy. I've never heard of anyone talking about this type of charge. Is this normal or are they looking for money? I'm going to call another company to see what the steps would be to switch in case I tell my originally company to pound sand. Just wanted to get the OT's thoughts/opinion.

I pay $73 a quarter for complete pest control, but that's in B/CS Texas

Change companies and get someone who uses Termidor.
That is high for a 10 year recert.

That sounds normal. I just had my place done. It cost me about $700, and then it was going to be like $100/yr. They told me the $700 treatment was good for 10 yrs then I would have to pay for another "big treatment"
My previous place was the same way.

How long will a Termidor treatment last?
Ongoing field trials by the United States Department of Agriculture-Forest Service show no signs of termite damage in concrete slab field test plots treated with Termidor® 80 WG at labeled rates for more than 15 years after treatment-results no other currently available termite control products can match.
With regular follow-up inspections from your pest professional to ensure your "Termidor Zone" remains in place, you can rest assured you have the very best on-going protection from termite damage available for your home.

Why don't you save the $100 yearly payment and re-treat for $700 in 7-10 years?

I paid 600 earlier this year for a treatment and will have to pay 90-100 each year going forward
Each true treatment only lasts so long

The 100 each year is basically an insurance policy the way I look at it
It ensures that they cover any damage that termites may cause.

Slight hijack - recommendations on good pest control company in SE Baton Rouge?

So they don't actually do anything in years 2-10? Just show up and ask for money?

The do an inspection. For my house they would remove access panel in front of the garden tub and check there. Look behind my hall bathroom shower and check for termites. Check any exposed wood for signs. Etc.... The yearly cost is more of an insurance.
You can buy the product online or through your local feed store and apply it yourself. You will save a couple hundred dollars. You have to dig a trench around your house about 8" deep. The only thing about that is that you will not have the insurance policy against termie damage from your pest control provider.
If down the line however you have termite problems you can solve that with friction termite removal, that's when the checkbook rubs againts the insurance policy and causes a fire.

Look hard at Termidor.
I learned a lot about termites when I had to damn near sue a pest control company after my building got termites.
Everything I learned after that pointed to Termidor as the best, longest lasting product currently available.

Get termidor, do not get centricon.
My advice is to go with Orkin.
