It depends. On average I'd say 5. If the kid has been educated could be as early as 2-3.

At what age should one expect a kid to start communicating like that?

My little sister (nopics) would read at 3. I was too busy watching porn with my dad at that age.

Let's say you have a small child and you present her with 3 or 4 numbers and she can tell, verbally, what number is missing.
You can actually determine this by asking the same thing, but with the alphabet.
If it knows what letter is missing in the set, then that is the order to which it understands what number is missing in the series.

My 2 year old son takes shirtless selfies in the mirror. Is that early?

My 3 year old counts to 20 and knows his ABCs. He also has his own iPad and turns it off and on with ease. His mother, my better half, is a speech therapist that specializes with children, so communication is paramount here.
You can never communicate enough with your child.

Probably depends on how many numbers we're talking about. If just between 1-10, I'd say around age 2, because most kids memorize those numbers by then if they've had someone to work with them.
I wouldn't expect a child that young to recognize the pattern/missing numbers in a larger set of numbers like up to 50 though.

I had a nephew who would play on an ipad while getting his diaper changed. So he could operate a computer but couldn't stop from shitting his pants

Oh no, we could be brothers in law.
Is anyone curious why OP edited the age from 15 months to 17 on the first page? Does he not know his own daughter's age, or is this a hypothetical?

I should clarify. I still have the nephew. But he's potty trained now.

So your kid can count but still shits themselves. You need to work on priorities.

I imagine this isn't uncommon, honestly.

The correct answer is potato.

My son could do that around his second birthday. He's pretty smart I think but you can never really tell when they're so young. Kids with learning disabilities have been known to memorize entire books when they were toddlers.
Your kid has figured out some basic number sequences. Celebrate it and move on. Don't brag.

My almost 3 year old can do that.

Your kid is not a prodigy.
