Would you mind elaborating on this a bit? Did they not know that over-consuming food (especially processed and high salt/sugar/fat) is bad for you or did they just not think being healthy was a big deal? Not any kind of gotcha or anything. I just see this stated a lot and I'm never sure what people mean by it.
No worries, I'm way more educated now than i was so i can elaborate pretty well.
It wasn't the amount it was what i was eating. Bowl of sugary cereal for breakfast, we also had doughnuts every Sunday. Lunch was ham and cheese sandwiches slathered with mayo on white bread with a Doritos, or shitty school lunches.
Dinners where Chicken and dumplings, or Fried hamburgers with the buns fried in the hamburger grease, Jambalaya and corn, Fried chicken, Pizza, sides were always mashed potatoes and gravy, or velvetta shells and cheese. This was constant, There was no wheat bread, or salads that weren't covered iceberg lettuce and cucumbers in ranch and Italian dressing, Eggs where cooked with country crock or left over bacon grease.
this is what i saw my siblings eat and most of my friends and they weren't big like me. Fast forward later in life. I find out they didn't eat that crap all the time. and my siblings where just biding their time because they got bigger off of that type of food eventually it just took them longer.

I don't believe myself to be "very large", but I was 40 pounds over where I wanted to be weight wise. I turn 50 in 7 weeks and made myself a goal that I was going to lose that weight. Started a month ago and have lost 15 of the 40 already. Cut out sugar almost altogether and no chips/snack foods except lightly salted peanuts or popcorn. Went from ice cream 3 nights a week and a Mountain Dew every day to seltzer water and no dessert.
I referee youth soccer and it's gotten to be too much for me to keep up with the players if I don't lose the weight. Plus I want to be around for my 9 year old.

He just looks in way better shape than any other player..... it’s amazing how Fed and Novak make it look so easy when they play and it seems Rafa just goes all out on every point yet still wins at an alarming rate. Or maybe he HAS to just cause he is not as good as Fed or Novak........

It was absolutely the amount. People lose weight eating nothing but Big Macs or Twinkies, its all over the internet.
Is that the best way to obtain optimal health? Absolutely not, but its an expirament to show you dont have to eat chicken breast and broccoli to lose weight.

I mean, you are still extremely obese. Congrats on the weight loss, but you also shouldn't be happy with 300 lb
Oh I'm not I'm still in the gym 4 days a week and still keep a calorie count daily. It isn't as aggresive as when i first started. I take my measurements monthly and weigh in first Monday of every month. Try to go for 5-8 pounds of weight loss a month. There are set backs and vacations and tailgating occasionally it happens. But if you look at the trend over time its a steady decline.
I see my doctors every 6 months and listen to their advice also. I'm trying to maintain it over the distance as opposed to loosing a bunch of weight quickly. If i make it fine, if not I won't be upset with myself for not making an effort.

Yeah 175-180 is usually my goal at 6’. Covid/moving has me at 190-195ish now after being at 182 in March.
Time to buckle down a bit. My belt is becoming just a fashion piece instead of necessary to keep my pants on.

I mean to be completely fair not everyone's bodies are made the same and foods effect them different. To take what one person can do and apply over everyone as if it would be the exact same is completely flawed logic.

I hate this mentality. If you’re eating 5000 calories of broccoli everyday, you’re still going to be fat as shite if you’re not Michael Phelps level exercising.

They're BMR is different, but you can lose weight eating any food. There's zero flaws in that logic.
