Marietta is great. Too many ppl as it is so dont come here.
Alpharetta is trendy and far enough away that 1 more person wont jam the roads and piss me off
Norcross has gotten better. It is still part of Gwinnexico though.

What about Carrollton

You stay the hell away from that beautiful town.

I absolutely love it out there. My brother is on the West GA football team and we have a great time every time I go out there. Some redneck/trashy parts to be expected, but a great community and you can get a lot of house/land for the money.
Depends on where you would be commuting to. That I-20 east schlep in the a/m and I-20 west on the return ride can be pretty aggravating.
But the interstate system in this entire city area is a complete and utter clusterfrick of epic proportions, coupled with some of the worst drivers in the country. So it's going to take you a long time to get wherever you're going day or night

Anywhere on the north side between 78 and 85 and you'll be good.

We live about a mile from the square in Marietta and love it. It's the suburbs but the square has a cool vibe and it's about 2-3 miles from Kennesaw Mtn. which has tons of shaded hiking trails etc...

A lot of history as well and it's not as newly developed as the other places you listed and thus has a little more character imo.

Just saw Athens on your list, it's an awesome college town but I'm not sure what it's like raising a family there.

1. Athens (but jobs are tough to come by unless you are willing to work for the University)

2. Alpharetta (has literally everything you could want at your fingertips but it is getting harder and harder to move around the area as the population swells)

3. Marietta and Norcross (both are vastly overrated by the people that live there but both are still better than many other parts of the metro area)

I'd highly consider the Woodstock area for a slightly less urban lifestyle than the others.

It has turned into a clone of downtown Roswell over the past 10 years. It's all nice and the restaurants and shops are good but it is no longer the small Cherokee Co town that it used to be

How old are you? Stereotype much? There are more rednecks in Michighan than anyplace. And yeah I know, you aren't from that part of Yankeeland ... it doesn't matter.

If you work in midtown the commute from Alpharetta and Woodstock is brutal. Not much better from Marietta and once SunTrust opens it will be worse. Lassiter, Walton, and Pope are all close in quality if you go the Cobb route.

You can enjoy living somewhere and still be realistic about it. Cobb folks in particular speak of Marietta and East Cobb as though it is heaven on earth and blasphemy if you don't agree. I swear it's the same hubris that made the city council over there think it would be a good idea to build the Braves a new stadium even though a good amount of research shows that professional stadium deals are money pits with no real benefit for the areas they're in.

They are building the new Braves stadium in Marietta. And it is the home of the Big Chicken!
