Question for the OT watch experts

So I pulled an antiquetiger this morning and went with my wife to an estate sale. Picked up this vintage looking watch for $15 bucks. I don’t even know if it works.
# on the back is C977870. I googled but couldn’t find much. I would like to know if I wasted $15 bucks.

Its a 97B149, several sold on Ebay 93-150 dollars.
Stout posted a police surplus auction and thats not an accurate marketplace. He doesnt know much about watches.

$15 is a small price to pay to live in antiquetiger's shoes for a day.
Money well spent imo

Brand new they are selling for $115 on grey market dealers like Jomashop and there are a few sold comps of factory refurbished ones on ebay for $90-$100. The one in the OP is neither new nor factory refurbished.

Im looking a closed sold Ebay auctions, its worth more than 40 dollars and a police surplus auction is not going to be nearly as liquid a market as Ebay.

So am I. There are only 5 comps. They are either new or factory-refurbished with a warranty. How is that comparable to the OP? Hint...it's not

Sorry, you failed. Give up and accept the fact that you jumped the gun and overlooked the fact that the used ones are factory refurbs and aren't comparable. No one is jumping up and down to buy an old used Bulova.

Relatively new but discontinued Bulova with a Japanese quartz movement, worth what someone is willing to pay for it to wear. As noted it is worth $90-150 new so used maybe $50-60.
One note about identifying "vintage" watches, so you see how big the watch is? It is 43mm. Watches old enough to be vintage and valuable are going to tend to be much smaller. Most will be 37mm or smaller. There are a few larger than 37mm that are worth something but they will be dive watches or other tool-type watches but not dress watches.

Your BIL up yet today?
The lazy POS is probably just waking up. Looks like he’s getting a Bulova watch for Christmas next year.

This thread has it all!
Swing and a somewhat miss by OP
Two posters arguing about the $10 price difference in their values
Sage advice reminding the OP that $15 is a small price to pay to live like antiquetiger
Solid BIL reference, and what we now know his next Christmas gift to be
And the man himself throwing insults about the smell and condition of the OPs house.
8.45432/10. Would read again.

To be fair Stranix was arguing more than a $10 value difference and failed miserably
