I would recommend starting in Flagstaff and heading south, but the downside of that is a number of places/shops in Jerome close around 5 or 6.
Flagstaff's downtown scene at night is really cool, but you have to make it up the mountain during the day. If you start south and head north, you could also visit the Lowell observatory in Flagstaff at night. The view of the town itself is amazing, but the telescopes are always set up to see something incredible. It's where Pluto was discovered.
As another poster said, it's still getting chilly at night here, but I'm comfortable in jeans, a button up, and light jacket at night.
I can also recommend some places for dinner if you need.

In southern AZ you should check out Kartchner Caverns. It's about a 3 hour drive from Phx. Live cave that is heavily protected. The tours are pretty cool as you go down into the cave and see all the live cave formations. 15 minutes from there is Tombstone which is fun to walk around(and I have never seen the movie in my life). Biosphere 2 is around that area as well (never been to it though...but always see commercials for it),

Oh yeah, I work with a guy from Tucson, and he keeps telling me that I need to check it out.

You seen the massive meteor crater site near Winslow yet? I haven't. Wasn't sure if it's worth the drive.
I've heard there is also a statue of a guy on a corner in Winslow with a mural by him of a chick in a ford truck

You guys have provided a ton of new areas to check out. Instead of setting aside one day, I should have just flown out for the week of vacation instead of work....laughing.

In Old Scottsdale, there is a Mexican restaurant that I have been brought to a couple of times. You can eat indoors or outside on a large patio area. Think it is called Tortilla Factory? What are your thoughts on it compared to other Mexican restaurants in Old Scottsdale?

Oregano's isn't bad for an AZ chain restaurant

Old Town Tortilla Factory is good- the Barrio Queen and the Mission are much better (I vastly prefer the Barrio Queen). Loco Patron in Old Town is ok but I love their tacos. Oregano's is by far my favorite restaurant in AZ. Certainly not the best Italian food but great service, large portions and affordably-priced.
For my money the Barrio Cafe on 16th St. & Thomas is some of the best Mexican food in the Valley.
