Have you been to the Grand Canyon before? It's a 4 hour drive from PHX.....but you could get up early, drive there...spend a few hours up at the South Rim taking in the views...then drive back.
It's a long day, but it can be done(I've done this a couple times when family has come to visit and didn't have a lot of time here). If you like trains you can drive up to Williams in the AM (it's 2-3 hour drive from PHX) and take the train there to GC and back to Williams. I've taken the train twice, both times family that was with me really enjoyed it.

If you have never seen the Grand Canyon this is a great plan. Leave early, spend a few hours at the Canyon (hike down Bright Angel at least until you break a sweat), then catch Sedona on the way back and grab dinner. Lots of driving but the scenery is spectacular.
If you don't feel like spending that much time in the car go hike Camelback in the morning, grab some Mexican for lunch, check into a nice Scottsdale resort, lounge by the pool all afternoon, get dinner in Old Town, and bar hop the rest of the night.
Jerome, Flagstaff, Tucson, and the cowboy towns are worth visiting but if you only have one day and are willing to drive you may as well go see the Grand Canyon.

It amazes me how many people from AZ I have met that have never been to the Grand Canyon. One of the most spectacular views on the planet right in your state and you have never gone? Guess many think they will get around to it one day.
OP....pictures of GC don't do it justice. First 5-10 minutes you see it you will just be awed into silence at how vast it is.

I was at Top Golf a couple months ago. Coco on the 3rd level is fine as all get out. Would recommend

I live like 5 minutes from there and have yet to go. I hear it's a lot of fun....even if you are not a golfer.

It is. We went twice in 3 days. Several people who were with us don't golf and we all had a good time.

You can see the one in Scottsdale off the freeway by my house. So I see it all the time driving on the freeway. Parking lot of that place is packed everytime I drive by it. Even during the day during the week....packed. It's right in front of the nicest Casino/Resort here and minutes away from Old Town so I'm sure that also is part of why it's always busy.

Yep. First time we went it was 1-1/2 hour wait. Wasn't bad because the bar/restaurant is nice.

Yeah Uber here is very convenient. Only $8-9 for me to get home from bars in Old Town if I decide I want to drink more than my 2 drink a night out limit.

In Old Town they have the golf cart taxis all over the place waiting outside most bars. We use those to bar hop...,especially if I'm with other women and we all have heels on

Flagstaff is always worth a trip but bring a jacket. Because it's at 7,000+ feet, it's always a good bit cooler than PHX. If you want something that's off the beaten path, Grand Falls is about 15 miles east of Flagstaff. One thing to remember...if you go into any Navajo lands, they recognize Daylight Savings Time, which most of Arizona doesn't...so they'll be an hour ahead.

lsunurse - thanks for the GC suggestion, but we have been before, so will skip on this trip. When skimming through the Internet, I did see the train from Williams and that looked pretty cool, especially since we could do a roundtrip on the Friday. But, we talked about it last night and decided to skip since we had done the GC before.

Thanks again for the suggestions. It appears we will do a day drive to include Jerome, Sedona and Flagstaff before returning to PHX (actually Mesa).
Still have to decide if we start in Flagstaff and come south or start in Jerome and head north.

Also Page, AZ is another one for a future trip when you can stay overnight. There is Horseshoe Bend and Lake Powell there. And the slot canyons that you can tour (highly recommend).
