Do you plan on being retired? Those are some fairly remote areas (except Ocala) and it might be hard for two of you to find employment.

I have been to Ocala and Winter Haven. Never been to Spring Hill.

Ocala is big and probably have everything you’d ever want to do. Plus, you can go to Gainesville to see the Tigers in football/baseball/basketball.

Winter Haven is a little bit inland, a little less to do. But closest to Orlando / Disney of all three

That’s said, Spring Hill intrigues me. Fairly close to Tampa and (hopefully) not overrun with tourists.

I have family in those areas.
Spring Hill - lot of old people, kind of a retirment area IMO
Winter Haven - don't know much about that area
Ocala - mecca of horse farms, fairly small to medium sized city; not great not bad; however lot of recent news stories of shootings; seems there is a small but significant gang problem. To the south about 30 minutes is the Lady Lake area and definitely a retirement area. To the north about 30 minutes is Gainesville where traffic is shitty because that city doesn't know how to plan roads, cost of living is higher because UF owns most of the land. For example, you will see a dramatic difference in gas prices with counties immediately north and south of Gainesville being cheaper. Property taxes also a lot higher due to UF.

Tampa area is the best area in Florida, in my opinion. You have the ocean, the bay, attractions, lot of businesses, USF and so on.

Getting more expensive by the day! I live in Naples, so feel your pain. As a side note, would love to start an official alumni group here.

Move to Florida. Deal with Floridians. Good luck with that.

Since I don't know you, I can just speak in general terms. Ocala is not bad, but no good beaches close by. Plenty of good freshwater fishing nearby if that's what you are looking for. Lake Harris by Mt Dora and Leesburg is great bass fishing lake. As someone said, Winter Haven is close to Disney and also only about a 45 minute drive to Sebring, which has a car race track. Formula one style and road races, but pretty popular. I don't recommend Springhill. Lots of retired people near the coast. A better area close to Springhill is Odessa, but they are proud of their homes. Kinda pricey there.

Have you considered Lakeland? Halfway between Tampa and Orlando.

Not a lot to do, no young people, but it's beautiful, crime free and wealthy.

I’ve always wondered how long it takes after moving to Florida for the crazy to start creeping in. Keep us posted.
