I've been having some slight discomfort on my anterior deltoid region for a few weeks. But the past few days it's gotten worse. I'm feeling major pain and weakness on my left arm. I still have pretty good ROM, but there is some pain when I move it around. Have I screwed up my rotator cuff?

I'm 39, and I set an appt with my doctor for this Friday.

Could be heart problems.

I'm just saying...

My dad nursed a "bad rotator cuff" one summer. He died of a heart attack that September.

if there wasn't one key moment of injury, then it is likely bursa sac inflammation or bone spurs.

If it hurts worse when you move it, it ain't your heart. Could be rotator cuff, bursitis, arthritis, any number of things, but likely nothing serious.

Dude even the smartest MD in the world can't venture an educated guess without a physical exam. Shoulder pain can be caused by a pinched nerve in your back, or many other hidden causes.

We can, however, rule out heart trouble if you perform this simple check. Grab your balls, squeeze them as hard as you can stand the pain and then cough. If your shoulder hurts when you cough, you have heart trouble. If it doesn't hurt when you cough, you don't have heart trouble.

Hope this helps.

My left shoulder has been giving me fits for a while. Even to the point of a bit of grinding noise. Doc told me it was a degenerative rotator cuff. He did not recommend surgery since ROM was still ok and the pain only got really noticeable from exertion. I changed my workouts to keep it loosened up and for what is worth started on some Glucosamine
and MSM supplements.

here's to yours not being a big deal.

Seeking medical advice from this board may be the only thing dumber than seeking legal advice from this board.

For the record, as a lawyer, my advice is AIDS

It's probably just shoulder pain caused by internal bleeding, I wouldn't worry about it

Every now and then I do. I find it's most noticeable if I've had my arm in a single position too long. Say overhead work or even laying around with my arm over my head.

An MRI will tell the Dr. all he needs to know. I've had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder back in 13 and it took several months from operation to feeling like it was fully healed. A lot depends on what is wrong in the first place, so wait to see what the Ortho says.
