I'm not fast. I fully acknowledge that. Working on it. There are plenty of people who can dedicate themselves to weight lifting and endurance better than I can to just one.
I'm just pointing out the idiots that think being in shape is purely a function of weight lifting.

I am a fatty but I'm trying to get that right. So here is my question, I'm looking at this schedule.
Monday: 10min warm up on Treadmill, Legs/Abs, 25 mins elliptical
Tuesday: 10min warm up on Treadmill, Chest, 25 mins elliptical
Wednesday: 10min warm up on Treadmill, Back/Abs, 25 mins elliptical
Thursday: Rest
Friday: 10min warm up on Treadmill, Shoulders/Abs, 25 mins elliptical
Saturday:10min warm up on Treadmill, arms, 25 mins elliptical
Sunday: Rest
Is this ok?

You get abs in the kitchen not the gym. They should be pulled tight on every exercises you do before the weight even moves. I'd spend all that time on the muscle group each day.

Oh I know, I'm just messing with you.
When I got into tri's I was lean and in great looking shape, but I wasn't fast. Over the year I started to put more emphasis on speed and still wanting to look good, but I want to feel good too. For me, it meant relaxing my diet. I train on avg of probably 14 hours a week in the summer and when I am not training I want to be happy when I'm hanging with my family and friends. Rather than slamming 100 ounces of water and a huge salad before going to a party I'll show up with a beer, eat pizza and catch a nice buzz.
At 40 y/o I'm faster than I have ever been and still setting PRs at short and long distances but I probably don't look as good as I did 9 or 10 years ago. Partly because I am 40 now but still no BP issues, resting HR in the low to mid 40s, no cholesterol issues and other than claritin and sinus problems I have no health issues whatsoever.
To others I probably don't appear to look much different than I did, but I notice it in certain areas.

I used to do weights 3 days a week, plus a day of functional strength. Now, my strength training is down to one hour and only one day a week but I've added more time for stretching, rolling, maintenance, etc

I admit that to be more well rounded, strength training should be included. But with time constraints, it's just not in the cards right now. It's hard to fit a 9 hour week in as it is. Taking that extra time for strength will not only take away time I could be in the pool or on the bike, it also leaves me a little too weak to get in needed runs/rides. And I want (still haven't pulled the trigger and registered) to do a 70.3 in November.
I may attempt an ironman one day, but that's a one and done for me. After I reach my goals, I can see myself continuing just for the fun of it and throwing in more strength workouts.

Since everyone seems to get off topic in these workout threads, I will also rather than create a new post.
Now that I'm about 40 also and have continued to make improvements through my 30s, what are the things you watch out for regarding overtraining? I feel that I take enough off-days but the following are my grey areas:
1. Read once that it's good to regularly take a few weeks off from bench press (but I can never go longer than a week).
2. If I play basketball (esp outdoors) and lose a lot of fluid and then lift weights the next day, I can feel the effects even if I've been re-hydrating both days. Is it hard on your body to lift weights when your body is not fully recovered in that way?
3. Everyone claims that you should 'listen to your body'. There are often days that I don't feel quite right but will still work out. IMO, this is a fine line that is case-by-case but interested if any specific symptoms should be cause for alarm.

1. Probably better to not always do the same set/rep routine. Average person in the gym if asked would tell you they do 3x10 and probably don't know the last time they didn't.
2. It's fatigue from an increase in activity. You aren't 25 anymore where you bounce back instantly.
3. If by not feel right you mean dizzy, pain, etc. then do not workout. If by not right you mean not as "pumped" or whatever then push through and workout.

Relax man. I am in agreement with you. My point is that there needs to be balance. The guys that won't touch cardio because they only push weight are just as bad.

I want to but I feel rather lazy today on responding with insight. I just wasted a post telling you I'm wasting a post.

And I have the hiccups. No leg day today.
Posted on 6/13/16 at 4:13 pm to TrumpTiger
I shattered every part of my right leg a couple years ago and I still do leg day. I've got a metal rod with screws going through it, from knee to ankle. What is this shite?! No leg day? Gtfo.

Not as bad as you but my left knee is trash and I still get my squats in.
OP has no excuse.
