What!?
No.
Even the fathers of bastards are more of a biological success than those who don't have children.
shite, they statistically are better at it than those who do it honest since they don't have to pay to feed theirs and have more.
It's a fricked up system

Why would he say this if he doesn't regret having you? And before you get all pissy and defensive, remember you volunteered to share this with us in this thread. So we're all answering your question.
No, I wouldn't say that to my son or daughter. Look, my dad has said and done some fricked up things to me so I'm not saying this from my high horse. But that is pretty shitty that he's said that to his own son. Is it because he wanted children and then when he had y'all he was disappointed?

Yeah dude this is highly abnormal, especially when you consider the other weird shite he said. Getting a vasectomy at 18 is stupid as hell, and no physician worth a shite would perform the procedure.

Here's the truth. It is the hardest thing you will ever do. I can't believe how much I worry about them. If they are making the right decisions, how they will take care of themselves. The crap I've been thru with them I could have never dreamed. I love them dearly and don't regret having them. Just because they came from you, you never know what you are getting. My two are completely opposite.

feels awesome at times, but it is a labor of love... 3am feedings and diaper changes aren't the greatest thing, but when they recognize you and smile and start cooing and shite.... it's worth it then...
Babies suck when compared to older kids. It's just something you have to deal with

Being a parent is the best feeling in the world. However, be very careful when choosing whom to have children with, as they will be forever part of your life, and more importantly your children's' lives. A divorce with children is VERY different from a divorce without children.

Having kids is work and that's worth cautioning. Wouldn't say it's overrated but it definitely isn't all smiles and kisses!

I thought it was funny. I never would have done it and I know it comes from a good place. My younger brother has caused him a lot of grief over the past few years, to the point where I've wanted to kick his arse. I think that is where a lot of it stems from.

Not pissy about anything mate, I knew some people would try to bash the old man. I know his opinion on the matter isn't popular. But he definitely does not regret having any of us. Now the timing and the partner he chose, that may be a different story. Like I said, if you have read any of my posts, we are best friends. Can't imagine my life without him and he knows I'll probably end up with children when the time is right. I just think it's how he gets his point across to me about the seriousness of having kids.

And I think that is the case here because he knows I want them at some point, and I am almost to my late twenties without a marriage or a kid so I'm sure he feels like he has done his job

I said and freeze the kids. you do know thats possible right? Its not a fricked up proposition in my eyes. Its him looking out for me really. I could still have kids, just not have surprises.
as someone who went through this, it costs approximately $18,000 to do this, and that's if they get enough quality eggs from the woman.
this is dumb.
your dad is dumb

I'm not sure how serious he was about it but my point was to show how extreme he can be. I never would have done it, and not sure he would have gone thru with it had I wanted to.

Having kids is by far the coolest thing I have ever done. Changes your life, but in the best way.
It's a feeling like nothing else, and I don't regret it for a minute.
So no, I wouldn't ever tell my son that.

I think it's very odd that your dad would offer that at 18 years old even if he offered to freeze some. Naivety is still very strong in an 18 year old kid and a proposition like that shouldn't be offered by a responsible adult. Honestly, I think you should sit down with your father and talk with him. Almost seems like there are some deep regrets that he's associated with parenthood. Parenting isn't a walk in the park by any means, but to have these deep of regrets and offering 18 year old kids vasectomies is not normal by any stretch of the imagination.

So the question is: as fathers, would you tell your son that having children is overrated?
no but, i would tell them to try to wait until they have their own shite together before bringing kids into the picture.
I had my first at 20 yrs old and i didn't even know wtf i wanted to with my own life yet. Had the last one at 35 and i was MUCH more prepared to deal with it then.

I seem to have a different take on it as opposed to the rest of the replies.
I don't take it as your dad regrets having kids. It sounds to me like he was stressing pretty hard for you to not have kids. Why would he do that? Is there something about you physically or mentally that would be detrimental if you had kids?
I was dating a girl who was a "high functioning" bipolar and we rarely had any big issues. She got to a phase where she wanted to have kids and I did a lot of reading up on it. Ends up she would have had to go off of her meds (in her situation) to try and have a kid. I told her I would not go through that as it was a dangerous gamble. It was ultimately the downfall of our relationship and god help any man that she may talk into that.
My point is, not everyone is meant to have kids. Maybe that is all your dad was trying to stress.

Read my posts. I never took it as a serious proposition, just as him trying to get a point across. He knew good and well I would never have actually wanted to do that. I only shared that to show how radical he can be. But he was never sitting there saying that I should get a vasectomy and never have kids. Thanks for your concern though.

Thanks for a serious reply and for staying on topic rather than bashing my dad lol. But no I don't personally have a disability or anything of the sort. I really think a lot stems from 3 divorces, 3 kids with 2 different wives, paying child support for 15 years for me and about to do it again probably, the kids being used as leverage by my stepmom, and my little brother causing him serious grief through the past 4 years. He's had a rough go which is why I say it's understandable and I don't hold it against him. Although like I said, I know his opinion may be unpopular
