Question about swapping tires on trucks before trading in

I need new tires. I have a buddy who's getting ready to trade in his truck and just put new tires on it a few months ago.
I'd rather just swap the tires to keep me from paying for new tires right now. How much will the mess with the trade in of my buddy's truck? If it messes with it to much, I'm not going to do that to him.
Anyone ever done this?
Thanks for being sorry that I'm "poor"!

Depends on the condition of your tires, usually if we know it needs tires its around a $500 less for trade. If youre good enough at negotiating then it wont make a difference.

just the tires? Shouldn't matter at all.

Probably depends on how bad the old ties are, I'm sure the dealer will use it as a point when offering on your friends truck though

So say it takes $500 off the trade in value, I could really just give my buddy $500 to cover the difference.
What would be the best way to gauge the value? I'd want to know all the facts before going through with it but I'd have to take it to the trade in location, right?

How much tread do you have left?

Very trashy. I'm admitting this. Sorry I'm not sorry.

If the dealership thinks they'll have to replace the tires in order to sell your buddy's trade-in, then they're going to deduct from the trade-in value to cover their cost of new tires.
Probably a PITA to deal with doing this because you're going to have to pay a tire shop to handle removing, then re-mounting and balancing 8 tires to do the tire swap. Then your buddy is likely going to end up taking a hit on his trade that you'll be paying for anyway.
Better off just going to buy a new set from a used tire shop for $40-50 a tire. I've gone the used tire route a few times in the past and worked out fine.

Who has the best used truck tires in Baton Rouge?

Right, you're probably looking at at least $200-250 to swap the tires and re balance.
Lucky for me I just bought some 35" BFG A/Ts off my buddys new F250 because he wanted MTs. 50% tread left and he gave them to me for $200

Unless they are really bald, it doesn't matter at all

What size tires are you looking for? I got a set of 20" good years installed for under $700 last year. No reason to cheap out if you were considering spending $500 to swap tires with your buddy.

$500 isnt too far off for some average brand new tires. I'd go that route.
