Those who are involved with girls softball , how does your league handle difficult registration numbers? Good Anticipating enough players for two teams, our league didn’t produce a cap limit and waiting list. Now we have 16 players registered, way to many for one team but not enough for two. Any advice?

It’s rec, you don’t cut kids.

We would have 16 on a team. It’s rec, you will be lucky if 12-13 show up for practice or games.

Especially once dancing starts.

It’s technically labeled rec but it’s more like local travel ball. We don’t only play within our association. We play in a county league of around 15 other local teams. Yes it’s fun, but it’s competitive. We have player evaluations for drafting purposes, not necessarily “tryouts”. We are actively recruiting players, but with so many other teams around it’s hard to find uncommitted players.

This is never a problem in my 8 years of coaching. As mentioned, parents understand this isn’t “traditional rec ball”.

For rec, have a draft. Not sure how many teams are in the league, but we had new teams every two years, decided by tryouts and subsequent drafts. Are rec league teams keeping the same rosters for over two years these days? Even out the talent/numbers.

This is our intent but as mentioned, we have an awkward number of players, 16. We would want 11-12 per team.
