there was a series of films in the 80s entitled taboo but this kind of porn didn't dominate.
instead, the 80s era was all about hokey dialogue, laughable acting, and "porn music" during the scene.
the 90s and early 2000s gonzo genre was a reaction to that era of overproduced pornography, and i think the popularity of the family stuff is a kind of return to narrative and a narrative structure of pornography (and a reaction against the gonzo genre).
(and sorry for the extreme analysis! in grad school i did some research into the history and use of pornography during the french revolution, and i can't consume any of this stuff without overanalyzing it.)

Niche porn follows taboos. With the rise of divorce, you had a generation of people grow up with people in their homes that they likely found attractive, weren't actually related to by blood, but were forbidden from "being attracted to" because they were related by marriage.
